Senior Fall Classic Recap: Top Unsigned Prospects

Jordon Banfield
Arizona Scouting Director

As we wrap up our coverage of the Senior Fall Classic and look forward to the 2019 event, here is a breakdown of some of the top unsigned players in the state. Scouting reports have been compiled throughout the fall and been updated this weekend. The list features a couple talented arms as well as some position players that have a chance to make an impact at the D1 level.  Brennen Davis, Troy Balko and Isaiah Montoya made an appearance on our 2018 rankings released earlier in the week. If we have not had a chance too evaluate you, the next chance to #BeSeen is at our Fall Prospect ShowcaseSunday, October 29 at the Kansas City Royal Complex in Surprise. As always reach out to [email protected] or @PBRArizona on Twitter with any question or commitment info.

BRENNEN DAVISOF / BASHA, AZ / 2018

Elite multi-sport athlete also excels in basketball. CF profile with average arm and above average range. 3.33 on steal of second.  Room to develop as a hitter.  Will make more consistent hard contact as he shortens swing and gets more time on the diamond. Showed much better feel for the strike zone and was on time more consistently than the week prior. Gets better offensively every time we see him play. Making rapid progress as he spends more time focusing on baseball.

TROY BALKORHP / SUNRISE MOUNTAIN , AZ / 2018

6-foot-3, physically very immature, lots of room to get stronger and add velo. That was from our report earlier in the fall. It appears to be happening of Balko as he worked 88-89 with the fastball and a sharp 79 mph slider with good depth in his first outing of the weekend and came back again on Sunday maintaining 85-88 with the same quality breaking pitch.

ISAIAH MONTOYALHP / LIBERTY, AZ / 2018

Shows advanced command of his fastball to both sides of plate. Aggressive delivery that has produced a velo jump at times this fall, but worked more 82-3 this outing. Dominates inner half against RHH. Best secondary pitch is changeup that features great arm speed and some tumbling action.  Developing breaking ball that shows inconsistent rotation. Also swings the bat well and would not rollout making an impact offensively at the next level. Backspin multiple balls to the LCF gap at the Senior Classic.

TYLER PORTERSS / OF / CANYON DEL ORO, AZ / 2018

Athletic body. Very hitterish in the box. Advanced rhythm and timing with toe-tap load. Made consistent loud contact with wood, mostly towards the middle of the field. Defensively, he made all of the plays at short; moves better to his left. Has a chance to stick at short but could certainly handle 2B or OF at the next level. Bat is carrying tool. Plays very hard.

JACK SILVERMAN1B / C / DESERT MOUNTAIN, AZ / 2018

Silverman took the impressive BP we saw earlier in the fall and translated in to the game with multiple loud barrels. The thing that stands out most is the bat speed he produces from a big body. His defense is also improved behind the plate and it appears he may have a chance to be a contributor there as well as at 1B.
