Unsigned Senior Spotlight: LHP Tanner Isaacs

Jordon Banfield
Arizona Scouting Director

Throughout the year PBR will put the spotlight on a number of uncommitted prospects who show the necessary tools to play at the next level. 2019 Tanner Isaacs showed up at our biggest event of the summer, the 2019 Top Prospect Games and intrigued with his projectable frame and ability to fill up the zone from the left side. He returned to our Unsigned Senior showcase this fall with an improved delivery that featured a slightly shorter arm action and more efficient lower half, further establishing himself as a guy that can pitch at the next level. Currently weighing in at only 167-pounds, Isaacs is a strong bet to see his stuff tick up as he matures physically, gaining strength and mass. Check out the full report below. As always, contact [email protected] or direct message @PBRArizona on Twitter with any questions and/or commitment information.

Scouting Report

10/10/18 - Lean 6-foot 3, 167-pound frame with long limbs. Frame shows room to add mass and will continue to get stronger. Issacs works fast and in a direct line to the plate. Arm action slightly shorter than our last look, getting on top of the baseball on the back side more easily and consistently. Fastball sat 81-83 mph with improved lower half mechanics that have made his delivery more efficient. Curveball was consistently thrown for a strike at 70-71 mph and has potential to turn into more of an out pitch as the rotation is tightened. Changeup flashed tumbling action at 76 mph. Secondary offerings will only improve with more arm speed. Ceiling is quite high for this projectable-bodied left-handed strike thrower.

6/27/18 - 6-foot-2, 155-pound frame. Very thin, projectable body. Controlled tempo, tall and fall style of mechanics. Could engage lower half more. Ran his fastball up to 84 mph from a ¾ arm slot. Curveball was thrown with fastball arm speed at 70-73 mph with 1-5 shape. Change up was firm at 75 mph and flashed sinking action. Isaacs' arm works well and will be an intriguing follow as his body continues to mature and add strength/mass. Very interesting developmental prospect.
