SNEAK PEAK PLAYERS

William Strand 3B / C / Centennial, AZ / 2025

Powerful frame at 6’2”, 200. Starts with an upright stance at the plate. Uses toe-tap in load as he transfers weight to the backside and then forward at footstrike. Rotates with strength, having solid numbers across the board in Trackman (94.4 Max Exit Velo, 362ft Max Exit Velo). Has some room to improve athleticism/movement as a defender behind the plate, but has upside with his arm. Quick arm and transfer time. In the infield, possesses pretty solid footwork on both approach and through the throw, 81mph across the diamond.

Mason Ulm 3B / 1B / Gilbert, AZ / 2023

Ulm has a powerful, strong frame at 6-foot-3, 200-pounds and flashed that strength last time we saw him at the All-State Games. Corner infielder with a bat that jumps out, posting a top exit velo of 93.2mph and top distance of 348ft. back in February. Ran a 7.30 60-yard dash on the day and has been up to 82mph across the diamond.

Hunter Cline C / 3B / Desert Vista, AZ / 2023

Positional Profile: C/1B
Body: 5-foot-10, 165-pounds. Average build, has some strength in the lower half.
Hit: RHH. Setup is simple, shoulder width base with a bend in the knees. Hands held in front of the right chest with bat held vertically.  Stride is direct and he's heavy on his front side. Being heavy on the front side, it creates some length with the hands. Swing is flat and through the zone, with the length it makes it harder for him to get to the ball in. Put up high numbers in blast categories.
Power: 90.22 max exit velocity, averaged 81.04 mph. 303’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 71 mph. INF - 70 mph.  Throws from a lower slot in the INF. Ball has some 2 seam flight across diamond. Short arm action. Simple mechanics throwing from the C position. Arm works better at C, uses more lower half and gets through the ball better.
Defense: 2.3-2.4 pop times. Has good direction with his body when fielding balls in the infield. Was consistent with the glove, room to add some rhythm and activity with the feet. Showed some blocking ability at C position. Wants to work underneath the ball while receiving, sets target low on the ground. Doesn't do too much, keeps strikes as strikes and catches balls.
Run: 7.42 runner in the 60.

Owen Harper LHP / 1B / Sunnyslope, AZ / 2023

We got a look at Harper back in June at the Top Prospect Games and he stood out with a long, lanky frame at 6-foot-3, 163-pounds. Projectable left-hander that sat 78-79 T80 and works downhill, creating good extension on the mound. Now two months later, it will be interesting to see where Harper is at with his stuff on the mound.

Brock MacDonald RHP / OF / Desert Vista, AZ / 2026

MacDonald will be one of the younger players at the event as a 2026 but should be a standout among the underclassmen. Works with a fastball that topped at 78.4 back in February. Posted good spin rates and spin scores on both his FB and CB. Flashed the upside in his right-handed bat, as well, with a top exit velo of 90.4mph and a max distance of 337.

Cooper Sobeck OF / 3B / Desert Ridge , AZ / 2024

As an underclassmen at Desert Ridge, Sobeck's bat impressed from start to finish this season. Right-handed hitter with feel to hit and the extra-base power has really begun to enter his game this year. Looks the part in the outfield and comes with an athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. Will be one to follow at the Valley Open.

We're looking forward to checking in on the next crop of talent from this event to earn next-level attention in the coming weeks, months, and years.
