We now take a closer look at 2027 SS Maximus Pena out of Saguaro High School after a strong junior season. Pena was a steady producer in the middle of the order and brings an athletic, high-energy look to the middle infield. The speed plays, the arm strength is there, and the offensive game is built around line-drive contact and consistently putting pressure on the defense.
Pena hit .439 with 47 hits, 46 runs, 26 RBI, 11 doubles, seven triples and three home runs for Saguaro. He also posted a .512 OBP, .757 SLG and 1.269 OPS, putting together one of the stronger all-around offensive seasons on the roster.
At the plate, Pena works with a simple stroke and stays geared toward hard contact through the middle of the field. He has shown a 95.3 mph max exit velocity with an average around 85 mph, and the game plays more through consistent barrel contact and putting pressure on the defense than trying to sell out for power.
The speed adds another layer to the offensive game. He gets out of the box well, can take an extra base when the ball finds the gap and keeps pressure on outfielders once he is underway. That showed up throughout the spring with 11 doubles and seven triples.
Pena moves well in the middle of the field and plays with quick feet and some bounce to his actions. He has run a 6.75 60 with a max run speed of 20.8 mph, giving him the range to cover ground and stay active around the bag.
The arm has reached 88 mph across the infield and plays comfortably from the left side of the dirt. He has the athleticism to move around the middle, and the speed and arm strength fit well at either shortstop or second base.
Pena enters his senior year coming off a productive junior season with a well-rounded middle-infield profile. The speed, arm strength and consistent game production all show up, making him one of the more interesting uncommitted 2027 infielders in Arizona.
