Uncommitted Spotlight: Cooper Crompton, RHP, 2022

Scouting Report

Background: Crompton is a 2020 right-hander, listed at 6-foot-5, 165-pounds with the frame to add muscle and strength moving forward. Crompton has a knack for keeping the ball down in the zone from a ¾ arm slot and he hides the ball well, using his long frame extending down the mound with ability to get out-front and extended. The fastball works in the 86-88 range and has been up to 89 mph. Pairing his fastball with two breaking balls is a tight slider in the upper 70’s, as well as a 11/5 shaped curveball in the low 70’s. With his current arm slot, the slider could become his only breaking ball in the future and throwing his change-up with arm-side run more often could make Crompton an elite 3-pitch arm.

Outlook: Crompton took his success from the JRPBL and improved it at the senior level as a junior. He led the Cardinals pitching staff with an 8-1 record posting a 0.96 ERA in 73 innings while striking out 70 only walking 27 including his start in the post-season. Adding 10 to 15-pounds before heading off to college can make all the difference for Crompton to increase his velocity into the low 90’s, and pair with his ability to throw strikes, he could be a very rare find from the west coast of Canada and is an arm that needs to be high on their follow list for college coaches.
