The 2022 spring high school season in California generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout all corners of the state. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state of California. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

MALCOLM MOORE, CATCHER, C.K. MCCLATCHY HS, 2023

Arguably the best hitter in the state, Moore led his Lions team to CIF-SJS D1 baseball championship game as much with his stellar play behind the plate as his performances while at the plate. Moore put together one of the most historic years in California history. The Stanford recruit broke several school records and enshrined himself in the state books as well. At the plate Moore struck fear into opposing pitchers with what is certainly one of the purest left handed swings in this year’s MLB draft accounting for 100 of his team's 300 runs either through an RBI or a run scored. For all that is made of his bat, his defense is well above average which only elevates his draft stock. 

Academics are very important to Moore as evidenced by his 4.0 GPA making his future a bit of a mystery. His present, however, is determined. Moore’s all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on McClatchy High School, has earned him the 2022 Prep Baseball Report California Player of the Year honors.

Moore has been selected by the staff of Prep Baseball Report of California. The team of PBR area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring selected Moore amongst a strong group of candidates from across the state. The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering baseball games at baseball diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States. The dedication and coverage allow Prep Baseball Report a credible way to identify the top athletes each year who best represent the state of California.
