Prep Baseball Report Colorado's 3rd Annual Underclass Invitational took place January 29th at the Slammers South facility. 80 prospects showed up and strutted their stuff in a pro-style workout. We started our break down of the Underclass Invitational by looking at the corners and catchers. Today we look at the Outfielders.

OUTFIELD ANALYSIS: BEST OF THE BEST

Bryce Matthews, OF/1B, Chaparral HS, CO, 2019 (Arkansas)
6-foot-4, 185 pounds. Bats left, throws right. Tall, athletic frame with long levers. Physical Big bat speed that produced 92 mph exit velocity. Hands work well, but has a tendency to be bottom hand dominant. Swung with wood in live round and ball really carries with gap to gap power right now and an uphill path. Quick hands work to the ball and then get out of the zone just as quick. Looks easy for him. Solid numbers on the day. 92 mph exit velo, 4.22 home to first. Threw 78 mph from OF. Has confidence and swagger. Player to follow.

Jett Hoggatt, OF/RHP, Rocky Mountain HS, CO, 2019

6-foot-1, 200 pounds. Bats and throws right. Physical specimen and athlete who really fills out uniform well. Looks and plays like a linebacker. Has some moving parts at the plate with both hands and lower half. Big crouch. Ball jumps off when he gets a hold of it. Bat looks like a toothpick in his hands. Smaller leg kick then last time we saw him.  Had impressive measurables at event. Exit velo was 88 mph off the tee. In the OF had good actions and threw from high 3/4 arm slot at 78 mph. On the mound comes right at you and attacks the strike zone. Good leg drive towards the plate. Fastball was consistently 79 mph but looks faster. Change sat 64-65 with fade, and curve was 62 mph with 11/5 shape. Also ran a 4.2 home to first time. Player to follow.

Jakob Porter, OF, ThunderRidge, 2019
5-foot-9, 170 pounds. Switch hitter, throws right. Slight crouch, and has unique timing mechanism from both sides where he loads down, pauses, then attacks ball with slight uphill swing, and simple. Worked for him and had a good round from both sides with solid line drive contact. Bat speed is there at 85 and 86 mph exit velo off the tee. Also showcased a strong arm in OF throwing 79 mph. Intriguing prospect with a good skill set. Also ran one of the better home to first times at 4.2.

OUTFIELD ANALYSIS: BEST OF THE REST LISTED ALPHABETICALLY

Kellen Cox, OF/RHP, Cherokee Trail, 2019

5-foot-11, 155 pounds. Bats and throws right. Tall stance, wider base. Slightly open stance. Looks like he's still growing a lot. Upper body will catch up to lower half. Short stride to the ball, slightly uphill swing with bottom hand finish. Generated 72 mph exit velo off the tee. In the OF throws from a lower 3/4 arm slot with accuracy at 74 mph. Has same arm slot on the mound. Lulls you to sleep with easy mechanics which are in-line to the plate, then falls off towards first. Effortless. Fastball was consistently 69 mph. Change was same arm speed at 60 mph. Ran a 4.5 home to first.

Tyler Dollahan, OF/C, Valor Christian, 2019
5-foot-9, 165 pounds. Bats left, throws right. Has open stance with toe-tap stride. Level swing through the zone with bottom hand finish. Flashed good bat speed in live round and off the tee. Exit Velo was 85 mph. Strong forearms. Good actions in the OF. Throws from high 3/4 arm slot at 76 mph. Attacks the ball. Good actions. Ran a 4.53 home to first. Player to follow.

Evan Faucher, OF/RHP, Pine Creek, 2019
6-foot-1, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. Tall and lanky player. Tall balanced stance. Hands are short and quick to the ball. Short load straight back. Swing in and out of zone. Line drive power. Had a good live round. Right CF gap a lot. Generated 83 mph exit velo off a tee. Aggressive in OF. Charges ball hard and throws from over the top arm slot at 74 mph. Good overall skills. Ran a 4.46 home to first.

Trevor Hazlett, OF, Frederick, 2019
5-foot-11, 140 pounds. Switch hitter, throws right. Solid foundation of skills. Liked what we saw from both sides of the plate. Spray hitter at times for now, but looks comfortable from both sides. Slight uphill swing from both sides but gets money's worth. Good extension through the ball. Exit velo was 79 mph from both sides. Only slight change is can be pull happy on right side. In OF has good foundation. Charges ball aggressively. Confident. Was 70 mph from high 3/4 arm slot. Ran one of the better home to first times at 4.3. Strong makeup.

Jake Jones, OF/RHP, Pine Creek, 2019
5-foot-10, 140 pounds. Bats and throws right. Balanced, open athletic stance with short stride. Was not as pull happy this event. Swing level with good extension through zone. Had good live round and centered everything. Exit velocity was up from 78 mph to 81 mph off a tee since last event. Solid OF. Position came easy with solid fundamentals. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and was 73 mph with accuracy. Ran a 4.8 home to first time.  On the mound is square to the plate. A little deliberant at times. Still could come through body more with arm to create more arm whip. Has a tendency to stop arm action in front of body which could decrease potential velocity. Was 70-72 mph on the mound with fastball, and curveball was 60 mph. Scrappy player. Like makeup a lot.
