The Underclass Invitational took place on Sunday January 28th at Slammers South.  The invite only event featured many of the top players from the 2020 and 2021 classes along with several newcomers who were able showcase their skills in a pro style workout for the first time for the PBR Colorado staff.  We began our look at this event with the catching position, followed by the outfield position, 2021 infielders2020 Infielders and we finish with the pitching position.


Underclass Invitational Pitching Analysis:

Carson Brown RHP / OF / Rock Canyon, CO / 2020

5-foot-9, 160-pound right hand pitcher.  Righty on the mound and throws from an over-the-top arm angle, loose arm with quick arm speed. Toe lift to balance point with average effort leads to some rhythm and helps land in line. Straight fastball averages between 82-84 mph. Curve sat 66-67 mph with tight spin and sharp 11/5 break.  A great secondary pitch to his fastball.  Changeup was down in the zone with late sink and was 70-72 mph.

 

 

 

Vaughn Burke RHP / 2B / Legend , CO / 2020

5-foot-6, 140-pound right hand pitcher. On the mound he stands tall and gets balanced.  Uses a sink and drive motion to the plate and stays in-line on his delivery.  Arm speed stays consistent on all three pitches.  Delivery is from an over the top arm slot.  Fastball was 69-70 mph with command down in the zone.  He added a 55-58 mph Curve with sweeping 10/4 break and finished with a 57-59 mph Change with late down movement.

 

 

 

Dorsey Chatham SS / RHP / Boulder, CO / 2020

6-foot-2, 180-pound left hand hitting SS/RHP. On the mound he stands tall and gets balanced.  Strong lower leg drive to the plate and stays in-line on his delivery.  Arm speed stays consistent on all three pitches.  Arm is long and over the top with good extension out front. Fastball was 83-85 mph and got on the hitter quick.  He added a 74-76 mph Slider with good back door break and finished with a 77-78 mph Change with late sink. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with a slow load on the pitch.  Good lower leg drive on the swing.  Hands come through the zone and create good whip.  Exit velocity was 92 mph.   In the field he showed good athletic actions and instincts.  He has soft hands and a good glove to hand transfer.  Arm Velocity was 76 mph with accuracy.

 

 

 

Brady LeJeune-DeAcutis LHP / ThunderRidge, CO / 2020

6-foot-4, 150-pound left hand pitcher. On the mound, delivery repeats, tall and fall type, loads lift to back side, coiled at top, lands square and stays on line and balanced. Arm action is loose, high ¾ slot. Fastball runs to arm side, 79-82 mph, showed ability to command. Curveball has 1/7 shape, had bite with spin and shape, 62-64 mph. Changeup fades to arm side, 69-71 mph.

 

 

 

Christopher Rhoades RHP / 1B / Lewis Palmer HS, CO / 2020

6-foot-0, 162-pound right hand pitcher. On the mound he stands tall and gets balanced.  Some lower leg drive to the plate and stays in-line on his delivery.  Arm speed stays consistent on all three pitches.  Delivery is from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball was 76-78 mph with some run into the hands. He added a 59-61 mph Curve with late 11/5 break and finished with a 65-68 mph Change with late run away.  This was his best secondary pitch.

 

 

 

Tyler Smith RHP / SS / Rock Canyon, CO / 2020

6-foot-0, 175-pound right hand pitcher. On the mound he stands tall and gets balanced.  Strong lower leg drive to the plate and stays in-line on his delivery.  Arm action is loose, over the top arm slot. Fastball is mostly straight, slightly runs to arm side, heavy fell, stays around the zone, sat 83-84 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, showed as his best secondary pitch, 68-69 mph. Changeup sinks with feel, 74-75 mph.
