OWEN MORGAN (UNIVERSITY OF OREGON COMMIT)

Owen Morgan SS / 2B / Fossil Ridge, CO / 2025

Morgan was a 2023 Future Games participant and ended his week with a no-doubt home run in the final game. Morgan is an athlete on all fronts and ran a 6.72 60 yard dash with a top exit-velocity of 95 mph. The junior is a seasoned infielder with feel, strength, and tools. Now committed to Oregon, Morgan is still actively developing and could have a massive spring campaign in 2024.

OUR Q&A:

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Morgan: I expected it all to be a process, but I knew I had to trust when I found the right place for me. When looking for a program, there were three simple things I focused on; my relationship with the coaches, my ability to develop, and its location. Oregon had everything I was looking for, and I knew that’s where I wanted to go to college.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Morgan: Yes, I wanted to stay on the western side of the country and somewhat close to home.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

Morgan: This summer is when recruiting started to heat up, but it wasn’t until the Futures Games that Oregon saw me play.

PBR: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Morgan: My relationship with my coaches, how I am going to develop, and the program’s recent success is what stood out to me most. I loved the environment and I knew it was where I wanted to be the second I stepped on campus.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Morgan: Notre Dame, Purdue, Kansas State, Ohio State, Dallas Baptist, Wofford, and Old Dominion.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

Morgan: Thomas Stewart because he is valuable on both sides. He can hit, play defense, and pitch, and will make an impact with all of it.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Morgan: I always believed I had the ability to play at the next level but I was never sure how high of level. It wasn’t until high school though, that I knew I could play division 1. Once I started competing against the best and seeing hard work pay off is when I made it my goal to reach the highest level possible.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Morgan: Give yourself a goal and make sure you reach it. Don’t leave yourself with regret because you didn’t take advantage of something in your control.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Morgan: Committing to Oregon.

PBR: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

Morgan: If we play up to our potential, we have the ability to make it very far and hopefully win a state championship. We have a bunch of talent, and if we play as a team and prepare the right way, it should be a successful season.
