Northeast Outfielders

Shooter Hunt
National Crosschecker

This week, In the Weeds highlights six athletic outfielders from the northeast that coaches at some level will want to follow this spring/summer. Some of the players have physical frames and impressive measurables, and only need more seasoning and experience. Others exhibit the skills necessary to make jumps in the future as they continue to fill out and get stronger.

Sebastian JnoBaptiste OF / RHP / Neptune, NJ / 2019

JnoBaptiste’s speed could make him an exciting prospect for a coach at some level in college. The long, wiry athlete has continued to fill into his 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame in recent months, and looks even stronger than he did in the fall. Now a 6.43-runner in the 60-yard dash, JnoBaptiste has potential game-changing speed. Showcasing a quick first step and the ability to cover lots of ground in the outfield, combined with a strong arm that has been up to 88 mph with accuracy from a low slot, JnoBaptiste’s defensive prowess might be a welcomed addition to some program. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts tall with his stance slightly open. Utilizing a shorter leg lift stride, his hands load down and back before working level through the zone with a higher, two-handed finish. He showcases the ability to hit line drives from gap to gap, and his short, quick stroke does not try to do too much. There is some natural strength to the swing with a shorter, direct path, and the rawness that it shows, at times, will have a chance to get smoother over time if given the chance to progress with more game at-bats. Overall, coaches will want to pay attention to JnoBaptiste’s progression at the plate this spring/summer as his speed could be a big addition to their program in the future.
