Potential First Rounders

The state of Florida should have a numerous amount of high school names selected in this summer’s MLB Draft, but how many will hear their name on Day 1? 3B Aidan Miller (JW Mitchell, Arkansas) is the top prospect in the state and projected Round 1 pick. The physical right-handed hitter has proven his ability to hit on all stages with plenty of future power to dream on. LHP Cam Johnson (IMG Academy, LSU) is the definition of a power lefty. At 6-foot-5, 235 pounds, Johnson runs his fastball up to 97 mph with heavy life generating whiffs. Paired with a wipeout potential slider, Johnson is one of the most projectable high school arms in this Draft and could go on Day 1. SS Arjun Nimmala (Strawberry Crest, FSU) burst onto the scene in 2022 and has established himself as a Day 1 talent. At 6-foot-1, 170 pounds Nimmala is one of the elite defenders at his position in this class. Shows ease of range to any side of his body and a plus arm from short. Offensively, the barrel stays on plane with bat speed and power potential that has continued to increase. Nimmala’s talent and youth will be savored by MLB teams this summer. RHP Charlee Soto (Reborn Christian Academy, UCF) is the power arm in this Florida 2023 class. The 6-foot-5 right-hander gets the fastball up to 98 consistently for swings and misses. A devastating three-pitch arsenal featuring a sharp slider and plus changeup makes Soto a name to look out for on Day 1.

Calvary's Big 3

Not every year do you find a high school team with three aces who can all go in the top 5 of a draft. This year, Calvary Christian in Clearwater has just that. LHP Hunter Dietz (Arkansas) is a strong southpaw at 6-foot-6, 230 pounds. Fastball has been up to 94 from a tough over-the-top slot. The arm is clean and easy with another jump potentially coming in the future. RHP Liam Peterson (Florida) has established himself as a premier right-hander in the 2023 class. Uber projectable at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds. Peterson has been up to 96 with a sharp slider. The changeup has the chance to be his best pitch however, giving him frontline starter potential at the next level. RHP/SS Landen Maroudis (NC State) rounds out Calvary’s Big 3 as he is the top two-way player in the Florida 2023 class. At 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, Maroudis has gotten stronger heading into the spring. Now up to 95 on the mound, he finds himself as a Draft follow as both a hitter and pitcher. Maroudis is a proven hitter with an ease to drive the ball gap-to-gap. The trio of Dietz, Peterson, and Maroudis will have the stands packed at Calvary for every game.
