Future Games Recap: Team Florida Outfield Analysis

This week we will look back at our 2020 Future Games Team Florida roster. This group was full of talented 2022 and 2023 players. So far, we have already had 6 members of Team Florida commit to schools, with much more to come in the future.

Today we continue our Player Analysis with the Outfielders from Team Florida. We breakdown our seven Outfielders with complete scouting reports from the event. Take a look.

Outfield Analysis

Nicholas Alonso OF / Belen Jesuit Prep, FL / 2022

Positional Profile: OF - One of the better all around athletes on the team. Lean, young frame that leads to a lot of upside combined with the present tools.
Body: 6-foot-1, 145-pounds. Long, lean and athletic.
Defense: Moves through the ball well. Times hops, rarely gets caught in between. Stays balanced and behind the ball aiding true flight on thrown balls to the infield.
Arm: RH. OF - 86 mph. Easy action. Extension out front with follow through. Ball jumps out of the hand.
Hit: RHH. Slightly crouched, small leg kick. Gets into good hitting position. Loose, quick hands. Present bat speed and gets connected early for a level, line drive swing.
Power: 88 mph exit velocity.
Run: 6.74 runner in the 60. Fluid strides, quick twitch.
 

Scott Edwards OF / RHP / Canterbury, FL / 2022

Positional Profile: OF - Athletic outfielder with a feel to hit.
Body: 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. Strong, athletic.
Defense: Chops feet with solid timing. Fields ball in rhythm with momentum towards the target.
Arm: RH. OF - 88 mph. Clean, quick arm. Gets on top of the ball with high release and backspin through the infield.
Hit: RHH. Athletic, tall stance with weight slightly back and hands above the shoulders. Creates rhythm and timing with a short leg kick. Lands on soft front foot and keeps the barrel above the hands through the zone.
Power: 92 mph exit velocity. 

Michael Graziano OF / RHP / Naples , FL / 2023

Positional Profile: OF - Athleticism with plenty of upside offensively.
Body: 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. Very long, lean, twitch and athleticism.
Defense: Smooth, calculated strides. Athletic. Stays low through the ball, fielding out front with tempo getting behind the throw.
Arm: RH. Long action, max effort. High 3/4 slot, releases out front with backspin.
Hit: RHH. Tall stance with weight even. Hands slightly away from body, Short gather load with front foot and subtle load in the hands. Snaps backside through and whips the bat through the zone with the hands inside the baseball.

AJ Nessler OF / 2B / Jesuit , FL / 2022

Positional Profile: OF - A strong body left handed bat that has upside offensively.
Body: 5-foot-9, 180-pounds. Stock, strong frame.
Defense: Long strides. Gathers off right foot with momentum toward the target.
Arm: RH. OF - 83 mph. Short behind, loose and long out front with extension.
Hit: LHH. Balanced stance, in the legs. slightly open high hands. Uses backside well. Creates torque with natural timing and a level bat bath.
Power: 97 mph exit velocity. Strong swing with good extension from the left side. Has potential to drive balls to all fields with consistency.
Run: 7.13 runner in the 60. 

Michael Petite OF / OF / Palm Bay , FL / 2023

Positional Profile: OF - One of the best all around athletes. The twitchiness plays all over the field. Generates some of the best pure bat speed in the state. Could develop into one of the top players in the state as he continues to mature.
Body: 5-foot-11, 195-pounds. Strong natural frame, looks of present strength with more to come with maturity. Very athletic.
Defense: Long, controlled steps in the OF. Keeps weight centered and fields out front moving through the target.
Arm: RH. OF - 84 mph. Quick, fast action. 3/4 slot with carry and firm throws.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, athletic stance. Slightly open, hands in front of shoulder. Creates a ton of torque in the body and utilizes the strong lower half, firing the hips. Hands follow through efficiently through the zone and finish through the baseball consistently.
Power: 101 mph exit velocity. Natural power and balance at the plate. Great feel for barrel. Power potential.
Run: Twitchy, runs well in game.

Delivery: Tall and fall delivery, quick balance point, athletic finish.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 arm slot, short to long arm action.
FB: T84, 80-83 mph. Arm side run.
CB: 71-72 mph. 11/5 shape, spinning action.

Ethan Phillips RHP / OF / Calvary Christian , FL / 2022

Positional Profile: OF/RHP - Currently a two-way player and could potentially do both. Really stood out on the mound though where the athleticism lends to a simple delivery with a very clean arm and high ceiling.
Body: 6-foot-2, 165-pounds. Lean athleticism with upside.
Defense: Chops feet. Fields out front and low behind the ball. Efficient routes and cuts balls off well.
Arm: RH. OF - 84 mph. Loose arm, quick out front. High 3/4 slot with carry on a strong throw through the infield.
Hit: RHH. Tall setup, twitchy hands, normal slot. Takes weight to ball. Fires backside off stiff front side. Line drive approach with smooth swing.
Power: 92 mph exit velocity.
Run: 7.34 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Tall and drive delivery, reaches an athletic high/quick balance point.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 arm slot, long to short arm action.
FB: T87, 85-86 mph. Running action.
CB: 69-72 mph. 11/5 shape, sharp action.

Hayden Yost OF / 1B / Sickles, FL / 2023

Positional Profile: OF/1B - The left-handed bat is pure and advanced. He is young and has a very mature approach and swing. Simple, but aggressive, he has a chance to mature into one of the top hitters in the state. Has since committed to Florida.
Body: 5-foot-10, 140-pounds. Long limbs, high waist with a lot of room to grow.
Defense: Smooth footwork. Fields off left foot with tempo aiding a strong throw.
Arm: LH. OF - 79 mph. Clean, loose action. Creates true carry.
Hit: LHH. Stands tall and confident. leg kick trigger and stays under control and on time. Advanced adjustability in the path. Hands work free, easy and independent. Compact through the zone while using long limbs to create leverage.
Power: 90 mph exit velocity. Young frame, but swing works and has leverage that could generate above average power with added strength.
Run: 7.29 runner in the 60.
