Jordan Poore Throws 1-Hitter, Leads Muncie Central to Victory

By Phil Wade

Jordan PooreMuncie, IN---Monday night’s weather was absolutely exceptional at 70 degrees and lots of sunshine.  Muncie Central’s Jordan Poore (left), like the weather, was also exceptional, dominating through six innings of work allowing just one hit, a second inning single by Delta’s Billy Walker.  The 5-foot-11 inch lefty ended the night with six strikeouts sitting 82-84 with his fastball and touching 85.  His best pitch of the night was his 1/7 breaking ball, showing a sharp action at 67-70.  Poore's breaking ball was a great out pitch on the night, throwing it with good command and getting many of Delta’s hitters to swing and miss.

Delta took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Cade Jones scored on a throwing error.  Delta’s one run lead was short lived as Muncie Central put three runs across the plate in the bottom half of the fifth.  The Bearcats started the inning off on senior Jordan Tighe’s base hit.  After a sacrifice bunt from senior Demetrius Hurt, fellow senior Caleb Pine laced a single to put runners on first and third.  Senior Brannon Muncey then hit an RBI single to tie the game at one a piece.  Walker, a junior, kept the scoring by hitting a 2 RBI double to give the Bearcats a 3-1 lead.

Muncie Central held the 3-1 lead going into the 7th inning with Delta's Walker now pitching.  Leading off the inning for Delta was senior shortstop Alex Maloney, son of Ball State Head baseball coach Rich Maloney, who reached on an error.  Austin Conway (2013) hit a pop fly between second base and right field, which fell, giving Delta runners on first and second.  Senior Skyler Brand made things interesting by hitting a RBI single to cut the deficit to one; however Walker was able to get three consecutive outs to secure the Muncie Central win.
