PBR: Why did you choose South Dakota State?
MCCAY: The relationship I developed with the coaches was awesome! For me academically, athletically, and financially it was the perfect fit.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
MCCAY: Besides SDSU I had contact with Western Illinois, Illinois State, Purdue, Iowa, South Carolina-Upstate, and some JUCO Schools.

PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
MCCAY: The coaches first saw me at the 2016 Iowa high school state baseball tournament. From there they saw me at their camp in the winter as well as a couple PBR events. I decided to commit this past summer and couldn't be more excited.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
MCCAY: I expect to play whatever role needs to be played, I would like to earn a spot in the rotation and be a weekend guy my freshman year.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
MCCAY: My brother, he has caught me since I was seven years old and I've always looked up to him as a player and my biggest role model.

PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
MCCAY: I've worked on everything. Locating 4 pitches and increasing my velocity was my biggest improvement this past year.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have played against or with?
MCCAY:My brother, not only was he my biggest influence but he was also my biggest competition growing up.

PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for younger players who have the desire to play college baseball.
MCCAY: Don’t rush into any decisions, take your time and develope a relationship with the coaching staff. Also take as many unofficial visits as possible, get a feel for every campus so when you make your decision you are confident that it’s where you are supposed to be. Don't expect to be handed anything, do something to separate yourself from the other recruits or the other players at showcases and even in games.
