PBR:  Why did you choose Michigan State University?
CHRISTOPHERSEN: I was interested in Michigan State and visited the campus before the program showed interest in me.  The coaching staff effectively communicated their program philosophy. After I was able to visit with Coach Meade one on one, I knew MSU was the school to best help me develop as a pitcher. MSU Baseball has also been one of the top academic programs in the Big Ten.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
CHRISTOPHERSEN: Dayton, Southeastern CC, and Iowa Western CC.

PBR:  Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
CHRISTOPHERSEN: Coach Sikes heard about an outing I had for Team Iowa at the Midwest Classic. He called me the next day. I sent him my transcripts and some in-game video. They invited me on a recruiting visit and to attend their prospect camp. The MSU baseball program ran a great camp and were very interactive with the players.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
CHRISTOPHERSEN: I hope to contribute right away. But I’ll be ready for any role they think is best for the team. It is nice to have two off-seasons to prepare for the Spring of 2019. I’ll be focusing on strength building and arm care this offseason.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
CHRISTOPHERSEN: My father. He ignited the passion that I have for baseball. When I was younger he was always there when I wanted to play catch or go down to the field. Has talked baseball with me for the past ten years, learned a lot from him.

PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
CHRISTOPHERSEN: I really worked on mechanics. Some of the changes were to improve control but they have also increased my velocity. I started to see the impact from the changes about half way through my Junior year.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have played against or with?
CHRISTOPHERSEN: Played against and with Tony Barreca. He has been catching me on various teams since I was 10 and plays with passion and energy. He’s committed to Georgetown. Great player.

PBR:  What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for other players who have the desire to play college baseball.
CHRISTOPHERSEN: Try to develop a relationship with the coaches at the schools which you are interested. You may have to go to one of their camps or catch their attention at a showcase. Communication is a two way street. If your local school or your first choice shows little or no interest, don’t get down, stay positive. The best fit may present itself when you least expect.
