PBR: Why did you choose Butler University?
WENDEL: When I took my visit, everything impressed me. The campus, the high education, and the new coaching staff were all huge factors in my decision that had the biggest impact on me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
WENDEL: I was considering South Dakota State and many other junior colleges.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
WENDEL: The head coach and the pitching coach saw me when they were at South Dakota State, so my relationship started with them when I went to their camp last winter. When they took the job at Butler, they contacted me and let me know what was going on. They continued to see me at various showcases and games this summer, and the relationship got on a more comfortable level.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
WENDEL: It's extremely nice to be done with the recruiting process and simply play the game to have fun instead of worrying about who's watching and how I perform.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
WENDEL: When I visited the campus, I knew that was where I wanted to go. The high education was a big difference between the other schools I was considering.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
WENDEL: My parents have definitely been the most help throughout the process. I wouldn't have gotten enough exposure if they hadn't taken me to all of the showcases early on.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
WENDEL: I thought it was going to be difficult, but I didn’t think it would be as complicated as it was.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
WENDEL: They want me to improve overall as a player, and possibly earn a spot to play.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
WENDEL: My most memorable moment would be during the second round of districts my sophomore baseball season. I went 0-4 at the plate my previous appearances. The game was tied in the bottom of the 8th inning. I was up to bat with a runner on third. I ended up hitting the game winning single to move us on to the next round.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
WENDEL: John Swanda
