PBR:  Why did you choose South Dakota State University?
IRA: I chose South Dakota State because they have a great engineering program that works well with athletes. Also, I will have a very good opportunity to play my first year.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
IRA: Iowa and Western Illinois.

PBR:  Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
IRA: They first saw me at the 2016 Iowa High School baseball state tournament. They first contacted me in the fall of my junior year and we kept in touch during the school year. We set up my first visit for April. I watched a game and met the coaching staff, then I saw the academic and athletic facilities. Prior to leaving, I met with the coaching staff and they offered me a scholarship. I kept in contact throughout my junior season and I committed at the end of June.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
IRA: I expect to compete for a starting spot my first year. The coaching staff is giving me a great opportunity to be a first year starter.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
IRA: My high school coaches, they gave me the opportunity to start on the varsity team as an eighth grader. This exposed me to a high level of baseball early. This improved my game by playing with the varsity and boosted my confidence.

PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
IRA: I changed my swing from my sophomore year of high school. I now incorporate a leg lift which has helped me gain some power while also increasing my batting average. I have also worked on being more aggressive at the plate and attacking ground balls in the field.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have played against or with?
IRA: It's hard to pick out one player. I've had the opportunity to play with some of the state's best talent and a lot of Division 1 players from Iowa.

PBR:  What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for younger players who have the desire to play college baseball.
IRA: My advice young players is to always play hard; a coach or Scout is watching and never take any plays off. Also, participate in a showcase early so you know what college coaches are looking for and know what to work on. I benefited from the PBR showcase because they provide college coaches with a player analysis, videos, and I was able to see what I needed to work on to get better.
