Prep Baseball Report Iowa held the Fall Unsigned Senior Showcase in W. Des Moines, IA  at WDM Valley High School on October 11th, 2014.  The event was for 2015 graduates with Iowa and Nebraska players represented. In our coverage we have broken down the prospects by their respective position.

pitchers

Noah Egger, RHP, Waukee, 2015
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Simple balanced delivery with good direction to home plate. Ball jumps out of hand on release. Showed quality 2-seam action on fastball. Hard late life in zone at 84-85 mph. Curveball had gradual break. Changeup was plus pitch. Best secondary offering. Was able to throw pitch with fastball arm speed with sink down in zone for strikes.

Zack Hamilton, C/RHP, Southeast Polk, 2015
6-foot, 220-pound 2-way player. 7.91 60 time. Simple load with front heel turn trigger into swing. Showed bat speed and had barrel whip through zone. Lift at contact and above average power to pull side of field. 88 mph exit velocity. Mobility was limited behind the plate due to sprained knee. Currently playing football. Has durable and strong body. Ability to receive and keep pitches in zone. Tends to stand straight up effecting glove to hand exchange. Shows accuracy to second base. 73 mph arm strength with pop times in 2.1-2.18 range. On the mound showcases downhill fastball with slight cut at 80-82 mph. Curveball was 67-71 with 12/6 rotation and changeup was 68-70. Slider shows good tilt and late break at 71-74 mph. Intriguing 2-way prospect when healthy and out of football.

Jeremy Bentley, LHP, Des Moines East, 2015
6-foot, 175-pound left-handed pitcher. Threw much better on this day. Balanced and controlled delivery with good direction to plate. Ability to repeat and throw fastball for strikes with late sink. 75-77 mph. Curveball showed 1/7 shape with late break. 68-70 mph. Changeup had plus action with heavy ASR. Quality 3 pitch mix for strikes with deceiving arm angle.

Colton Patterson, RHP/1B, Winterset, 2015
6-foot-3, 210-pound 2-way player.  Left-handed that loads with body. Minimal weight shift through zone. Shows ability to barrel up baseball with uphill swing and pull approach. 82 mph exit velocity. Aggressive fielder with usable hands and feet. Goes after baseball. Quality footwork around bag receiving throws. Balanced delivery with inline stride. Over-the-top slot with slight head jerk and effort. Fastball had late cutting action at 80-82 mph. Curveball showed 12/6 shape with late sharp break at 71-72. Changeup had slight ASR at 75-76 for strikes. Lowered arm slot causing slider to be flat and up in zone. Slider 67-70 mph.

Colby Hansen, RHP, Ames, 2015
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Showcased fastball at 75-78 mph with downhill action and slight sink at end. Curveball had 12/6 shape with gradual break. Changeup showed gradual arm side run at 66-70 mph. Flashes of quality arm speed from over-the-top slot.

Brandon O’Neill, RHP, Harlan, 2015
6-foot-1, 210-pound right-handed pitcher with a fastball in 70-73 mph range. Curveball was 63-65 mph and changeup was 64-68 mph. Controlled delivery to balance point. Arm starts long and begins to shorten into release. Front side swings open and strides/ falls to first base side with slingy low ¾ arm action. Slight ASR with fastball. Sweeping flat action on breaking ball. Changeup showed sink with good arm speed. Three pitches for strikes with below average velocity.
