PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
GREEN: When I visited Southeastern I was impressed with the coaching staff and facilities.   Coach Schulte and coach Merritt were honest with me on what they liked and what I needed to work on.  They also seemed excited about me.  I know I can, and need to get better, and I thought that a junior college would be my best opportunity to improve and continue to play at a higher level.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
GREEN: Minot State.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
GREEN: Coach Merritt first saw me at a workout for my travel team Dusty Rogers Baseball Academy.  I then talked to him after it, and he said he will come see me play this summer.   A few weeks later Coach Schulte called to tell me more about their program and that they would set up a time for me to visit.  The relationship developed slowly because of Covid, and were unsure if we would have a baseball season.  They actually were not able to come see me play this summer with my high school team.  I had a visit set up, and before that visit Coach Schulte was able to see me pitch at the PBR event in early August in Cedar Rapids.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
GREEN: Yes.  It is a relief knowing I have a great school that I can play at.   It was time consuming and stressful getting emails, calls and text from schools and deciding which ones would be a fit for me.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
GREEN: Yes…I really liked Coach Schulte and Coach Merritt at Southeastern, and know players that have gone there and had success because of them.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
GREEN: My dad and my coaches in high school and travel ball.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
GREEN: I did not know what to expect, but was surprised at how many calls, texts, and emails I received from coaches.  It was difficult because I did not have a lot of knowledge on some of the schools, so I was always going online looking up their programs to decide if it would be a fit.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
GREEN: All I know is that I will be a pitcher.  Whether I will be a starter or in relief is to be determined.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
GREEN: Probably my sophomore year when I pitched against Iowa City Regina.  It was one of my first starts for varsity and was pitching against Chase Becker.  We won the game 2-1.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
GREEN: I have had the chance to play against a lot of great players in our area in high school, travel ball and semi-pro….But I would have to say Calvin Harris.
