PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT

 

 

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
YOUNG: I chose Parkland College because of many factors, some of those being, coaches, culture, location, and opportunity to play.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
YOUNG: Heartland, Southeastern CC, North Dakota State, along with other local D3 schools.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
YOUNG: Coach Goebel first saw me the summer of 2018 at the PBR Futures Games.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
YOUNG: Yes, it is a big weight off my shoulders and knowing I can go out there and just play ball is a sense of relief. With that being said I did enjoy the process because I think I learned a lot throughout it.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
YOUNG: It's hard to pinpoint one specific factor however one of the major deciding factors was the team’s history with sending their players in to high level baseball.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
YOUNG: There has been many people who have helped me get to the point where I am at today. These people include my family, friends, all the coaches in every sport I have played starting when I was young all the way to where I am now, and of course the coaches at Parkland.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
YOUNG: My expectations of the process were pretty accurate because of the multiple friends and teammates I have had go through the process. I knew it was going to be tough to decide on only one school and I also knew it would be stressful considering the importance of the decision. For me personally it wasn't very hard because I knew almost right away after my visit with Parkland that I liked everything about them.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
YOUNG: For freshman year my Coaches plan on obviously having me get stronger and faster. They also plan on me to partake in being a two-way player, working on the left side of the infield as well as pitching and making a final decision on one focus when it seems necessary.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
YOUNG: My most memorable moment in baseball so far was definitely going to the state tournament last year because I had played with that senior class for the past 5 years so some of my best friends were seniors and being able to make their last year that special was something that I'll always remember.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
YOUNG: The best player I have played against is probably Calvin Harris. You can tell by the way he commands the field and also the sound he creates when he makes contact with the ball, or the glove pop on his throw downs he is the real deal.
