The PBR IA Fall Review event took place on Sunday, October 28, 2018. The event was held indoors at SportsIowa in Ames, IA. The event featured prospects from the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance.

catcher EVALS (ALPHABETICAL)

Ethan Drown, C/OF/RHP, Urbandale, 2021
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting utility player. 7.2 runner. Lean wiry strength with projectable build. Wider stance with balance, compact swing and stays connected through contact, flashes hard line drive and fly ball contact with pop in bat to pull side of field, 89 mph exit velocity. Solid/avg. actions in field, works through ball, shorter arm action, shows carry on throws with avg. accuracy to target, 86 mph outfield velocity. Moves well and is athletic behind plate, sure hands, sticks pitches in zone, good instincts to block, high setup, solid footwork, arm late on release, avg. accuracy to bag, 75 mph arm strength with 2.00-2.13 pop times.

Sam Funke, C, Iowa City Liberty, 2020
6-foot-2, 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher. 7.5 runner. Physical presence in box, good balance, line drive swing plane, mid/pull approach, occasional pop in bat, 91 mph exit velocity. Strength in hands and sticks pitches well in zone, good balance in stance, moves well laterally, quiet actions receiving breaking ball, slower feet on catch and throw, clean exchanges, some hitch in arm action, accurate to bag consistently, 72 mph arm strength with 2.18-2.34 pop times.

Jackson Hull, C/3B, Wilton, 2022
5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.15 runner. Square stance, front heel turn trigger, low hand slot, flat swing plane, some stiffness to swing, flashes of hard contact to pull side of field, 74 mph exit velocity. Works to field out front occasionally, choppy feet, makes routine plays, presents glove late to field, accurate to bag, lower arm slot, 72 mph arm across infield. Clean exchanges with quicker release, solid accuracy to bag, tends to work around plate with avg. footwork, lower arm slot creating tailing action on throws, solid receiver, has flexibility in lower half with solid later mobility, tends to catch with thumb underneath at times, 69 mph arm with 2.23-2.27 pop times.

Kody Kleve, C/RHP, South Winneshiek, 2020
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.44 runner. Solid base with present strength in frame, early rhythm, avg. bat speed, dead pull approach, tends to pull bat through zone, uphill path, barrels baseball well, stays on and through contact, 81 mph exit velocity. Avg. footwork with long stride, longer release, inconsistent accuracy to bag, soft hands receiving, gives too much occasionally on fastballs, quiet and stays underneath breaking ball well, 77 mph arm strength with 2.08-2.23 pop times.

Jackson Powell, C, Ankeny Centennial, 2021
5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Square stance with easy rhythm in swing, line drive approach, finds barrel consistently, tends to pull off contact early, mid/pull approach, consistent swing, 77 mph exit velocity. Has direction with feet, comes out early to catch and throw, some length to exchange and release, consistently around bag area on throws, sure hands to receive, solid base and mobility, avg. receiving to glove side of plate. 72 mph arm strength with 2.08-2.22 pop times.
