Q&A With North Iowa Area CC Commit: Zack Hamilton

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

HAMILTON: I chose NIACC because I was impressed by the coaching staff's new styles of developing players and the tremendous facilities they brought to the table.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

HAMILTON: I was also considering DMACC and Central College in Pella.

PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?

HAMILTON: NIACC first saw me playing during this past season and they saw me play in the Iowa Coaches Association showcase as well as the PBR 2015 Prospect Games at the University of Iowa. I really had a good bond immediately with the coaching staff with how honest and upfront they were about what I would be getting into; as well as what they could offer after two years of being a Trojan.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?

HAMILTON: I expect to play a big part on the mound my first year and help close out games. Having the opportunity to close games is what I enjoy most in pitching. I also expect to play the field some at catcher or first base.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

HAMILTON: Obviously my parents support cannot go unnoticed. My uncle, Brad Hamilton, Head coach at Bondurant Farrar. My USSSA tournament team coach and assistant varsity coach at Des Moines East -Carlos James, and my mentor and long-time training coach and freshman assistant coach at SEP- Blake Kielman. All of these men trained me to not only love and enjoy the game of baseball but also how to help my team and future Rams baseball players.

PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Iowa?

HAMILTON: The toughest player I faced from Iowa would be the Iowa Pitcher of the Year last year- Sammy Lizarraga. I had one solid hit on him at the state tournament but he had a good fastball with a deceiving second pitch.

PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.

HAMILTON: It is very scary to make a choice. But once it’s over and you have made a choice the coaches will help you get through the process. My advice for future athletes is to get out there and get noticed and when a coach contacts you; show interest to them because you never know what school you will end up liking the best.
