The Buzz: Kansas' Top 2016s Make Decisions

By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

The state of Kansas stole the spotlight in recruiting this week with two of its best 2016 prospects making verbal commitments. RHP Riley Pint (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, KS), the No. 1 prospect in the Overall Rankings, chose Louisiana State. Pint has seen a meteoric rise in the last year. Coaches in Kansas raved about him a year ago when he was pitching in the high 80s, but was up to 95 mph in the state tournament this spring and created buzz all summer.

Also making a commitment was LHP/1B Joey Wentz (Shawnee Mission East HS, KS). The No. 2 prospect in Kansas chose Virginia. Wentz hit more home runs than his teammates combined in the spring and then set a Prep Baseball Report Future Games record with a 101-mph exit velocity. He also sat 85-87 on the mound.

Here are some more highlights in recruiting…

+ LHP Nick Bennett (Moeller HS, OH) had narrowed his list to Louisville, Mississippi and Vanderbilt before verbally committing to the Cardinals.
