Kentucky Future Games Recap: Friday's Games

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Friday saw Team Kentucky take on Ohio and Indiana in 4:00 and 7:00 PM contests at the PBR Future Games in front of a packed house of college coaches. Here is a look at how each game unfolded.

Despite jumping out to an early lead, Team Kentucky fell to Ohio 3-2 in Friday’s first game. With one out in the second inning, Trent Shelby (McCracken County) drew a one out walk and Landon Moberly (Lexington Catholic) smoked a triple to the right field fence, but Shelby was thrown out at the plate on a perfect relay by Ohio.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth when Jack Schneider drew a one-out walk and Will Moriarty followed with a double down the left field line to score Schneider and give Team Kentucky a
1-0 lead. After Sammy Mudd (St. Xavier) was hit by a pitch, Jackson Campbell (Logan County) laced a double to right-center to make it 2-0.

Meanwhile, Team Kentucky pitchers Trip Lockhart (Lexington Catholic) and TJ Graves (Nelson County) were keeping the big bats of Ohio quiet. With a fastball that sat 84-87 mph and good command of his secondary pitches, Lockhart worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

Despite some command issues (five walks in two innings) Graves ran his fastball up to 90 mph on several occasions and finished his two inning outing allowing one run on no hits with three strikeouts.

Team Ohio took advantage of three walks and a hit batter in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. Team Kentucky threatened in both the fifth and seventh innings, but couldn’t push the tying run across in the loss.

Team Indiana jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back in a 7-1 win over Team Kentucky in the nightcap. A misplayed pop-up in the infield, two hit-by-pitches, an error, and two Indiana hits did the first-inning damage off Team Kentucky starter Eddie Satisky (Lafayette). Satisky’s fastball sat 85-87 mph touching 88 on one occasion in his two innings of work.

Team Kentucky got one run back in the bottom half of the first when Blake Benz (North Bullitt) led off the game with a double to right field and scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 5-1.

That would be all the offense Team Kentucky could muster against Indiana’s quality arms in the 7-1 defeat.

Brody Heil had an impressive outing with his 84-86 mph fastball and good feel for his secondary pitches.
