Preseaon All-State Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis (Part One)

 A total of 22 corner infielders participated in the Preseason All-State Showcase on Sunday, Feb. 16 at Champions Baseball Academy in Lexington.  In part one of our evaluations, we take a look at half of the group of corner infield prospects.

PBR Plus: Standout Corner Infielders

Bryson Dillow, R/R, 3B, Collins HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 150-pound prospect, shows athletic actions defensively with soft hands, good lateral movement, arm played at 76 mph across the infield (79 mph at previous event).  Dillow was nopt able to participate in batting practice at the event, he registered and exit velocity of 79 mph (82 at previous event), ran 7.50 60 yard dash (7.34 at previous event).

Jacob Frazier, R/R, Madison Central HS, 2015
6-foot, 185-pound prospect, physical build, shows good actions defensively with solid footwork, good body control, quick transfer/release, accurate arm at 74 mph across the infield (4 mph increase from January event).  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, displays good balance, line drive type hitter, uses strong lower half, registered 83 mph tee exit velocity (+3 mph from January event), has been to multiple events and this was his best as he showed gains in arm strength and bat speed.

Brody Heil, L/L, LHP/1B, Trinity HS, 2017
5-foot-9, 160-pound, young prospect, showcased good feet and athleticism around the first base bag, loose arm across the infield, top velocity of 73 mph.  At the plate, the left-handed hitter hits from a slightly open setup, squares front side with a short stride, has an arm bar in load which lengthens swing but gets through the zone with quick hands, line drive type hitter showed good barrel awareness consistently squaring the baseball, ran 7.52 60, showed good bat speed for age with 84 mph tee exit velocity, 2017 prospect to follow.

Logan Holland, R/R, 3B, Lafayette HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 162-pound prospect with athletic build, showed some body control on slow roller with the ability to throw accurately on the move, accurate arm with a top velocity of 71 mph across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, good balance, swing path is level with line drive production, mid-field approach, ran 7.47 60 yard dash, 79 mph tee exit velocity.

Reece Ison, R/R, 3B/RHP, Prestonsburg HS, 2017
5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect with athletic build, showed an accurate arm across the infield at 70 mph.  At the plate, hits from a open and tall setup, squares front side with a short stride, gets some lower half involved in swing, level path to the ball, ran 8.01 60 yard dash, registered 81 mph tee exit velocity (6 mph increase from January event).

Griffin McLarty, L/R, RHP/3B, Oldham County HS, 2016
6-foot-2, 160-pound prospect with lanky and projectable frame, shows solid corner actions, good lateral movement, loose arm across the infield at 76 mph but was 81 mph during the summer. At the plate, the left-handed hitter hits from a balances setup with a short stride, displays good balance, good use of lower half torque, quick hands consistently gets the barrel through the zone, uphill path to the ball, good round of batting practice consistently squaring the baseball, ran 7.19 60 (7.09 at previous event), 79 mph tee exit velocity, definite follow in 2016 class.

Dylan Messer, R/R, RHP/1B, North Laurel HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect , athletic build, showed average first base actions with 75 mph arm across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, cuts off lower half at times, line drive type hitter, shows some hand quickness, shows strength in swing, ran 7.22 60 yard dash, showed ability to generate bat speed with 86 mph tee exit velocity.

Luke Price, L/R, 3B/RHP, Christian Academy of Louisville, 2017
6-foot-1, 175-pound, young prospect, defensively shows average corner actions and hands, showcased an accurate arm across the infield with a top velocity of 71 mph.  At the plate the left-handed hitter hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load, uses a short stride, short path to the ball with some hand quickness, line drive type hitter with some pull-side power, ability to use all fields, solid young left-handed hitter, ran 8.49 60 yard dash, 78 mph tee exit velocity.

Isaac Stephens, R/R, RHP/3B, Somerset HS, 2016
6-foot, 165-pound prospect shows a quick exchange in the infield, gets rid of the ball quickly with a top velocity of 69 mph across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with minimal stride, displays good balance throughout swing, line drive type hitter, incorporates lower half, ran 7.85 60 yard dash, showed some bat speed with 83 mph tee exit velocity.

Justin Warren, R/R, 3B, Henry Clay HS, 2014
5-foot-11, 185-pound prospect with strong/physical frame, shows athletic corner actions with soft hands, continues to show increase in arm strength, accurate arm at 79 mph across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, good balance, gap-to-gap approach with occasional power, good use of strong lower half in swing, ran 7.28 60 yard dash (has run 7.13 at previous event), 85 mph tee exit velocity (87 at previous event), solid 3B at the next level.
