Sophomore Spotlight: RHP Stewart Currie

Stewart Currie, RHP, Daviess County HS, 2016currie

Stewart Currie is a 6-foot-6, 175-pound, RHP with big upside on the mound.  We got our first look at Currie at the Kentucky Underclass Games Event at Eastern Kentucky University in August.  Prior to the event, PBR Western Kentucky scout Jeff Johnson had good things to say about Currie, and he lived up to the billing.

Currie’s arm is long and loose, and he produced a fastball that sat 82-84 mph with occasional arm-side run.  He struggled to command his curveball early, but it got much sharper and he showed better command as he progressed through his outing.  The curveball sat 64-68 mph with 11/5 action.  In addition he showed a 75-76 mph changeup that has the potential to be an effective pitch.

With his highly projectable frame and a fastball that was reaching the mid-80’s last summer, there is no question that Currie has the potential to be a high-level pitching prospect if he continues his development.  Currently ranked No.7 in Kentucky’s 2016 Class and No.62 in the 2016 overall rankings, Currie will be one to watch over the next few years.
