Underclass Showcase 7.9.13: Third Base Analysis

Today we take a look at the third base prospects from the July 9 Underclass Showcase at Bellarmine University.

Building on his Top Prospect Games performance, Davis Sims again showed good defensive ability and power potential at the plate.

Spencer Hackworth also showed power potential at the plate, consistently driving the baseball,and had the top tee exit velocity of the group at 83 mph.

Sims and TJ Satterly showed the top arms of the group at 79 mph across the infield.

D'Markeo taylor ran the top 60 of the group with a 7.04

The following is an in depth look at all the primary third base prospects from the event.

Class of 2015 prospects

Davis Sims, 3B, St.Mary HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect with projectable frame, shows good lateral movement, soft hands, good corner actions, loose/athletic arm at 79 mph across the infield.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup, smooth load, good rhythm, and balance, short stride, squares up the baseball routinely, able to spray line drives while also showing some pull power, very solid 2015 corner prospect with potential to be power bat at the next level, ran 7.81 60 yard dash (7.57 at TP Games), 81 mph tee exit velocity.

Spencer Hackworth, 3B/OF, Bishop Brossart HS, 2015
6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect, good corner actions, average hands, shows ability to throw accurately on the move, short arm action, accurate arm across the infield at 76 mph, also plays outfield, attacks the ball and plays through well, clean exchange, over-the-top arm slot, throws stay online, accurate arm at 78 mph.  At the plate, hits from open stance, smooth load, good rhythm in swing, short stride, explodes with lower half to generate barrel whip through the zone, consistently barreled up the baseball, shows some pull power, potential to be solid hitter at the next level, ran 7.88 60 yard dash, 83 mph tee exit velocity.

TJ Satterly, RHP/3B, Male HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 155-pound prospect with lanky build, projectable frame, room for improved footwork, average hands, good body control, loose/athletic arm, throws at 79 mph across the infield, accurate arm, also plays outfield, plays through the ball, accurate arm at 81 mph.  At the plate, hits from a balanced setup, slight load, uses a toe tap trigger, shows middle of the field approach, ran 7.78 60 yard dash, 77 mph tee exit velocity, also pitches (featured in pitching write-ups).

Kyler Dugle, 3B/RHP, Shelby County HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect with athletic build, good corner actions, feet work well, soft hands, good body control, shows ability to throw on the move from different arm angles, arm strength at 75 mph across the infield.  At the plate, hits from balanced and wide setup, uses a toe tap trigger, smooth load, short path to the ball, middle of the field approach with line drive contact, swing will benefit from more consistent use of lower half, ran 7.44 60 yard dash, 76 mph tee exit velocity.

D’Markeo Taylor, 3B/OF, Bryan Station HS, 2015
6-foot, 170-pound prospect, athletic build, feet work, some stiffness in arm, arm is accurate at 68 mph across the infield, also plays outfield, plays through the ball, good footwork on fly ball, showed 73 mph arm from the outfield.  At the plate, hits from a narrow/tall setup, medium-length stride, very good hand quickness, lower half gets involved in swing, middle of the field approach, barreled up several pitches with hard line-drive contact, ran 7.04 60 yard dash, 74 mph tee exit velocity.

Bryson Dillow, 3B/OF, Collins HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 145-pound prospect, shows good lateral movement, hands work, quick exchange, short arm action from over-the top arm slot, accurate arm, solid arm strength at 78 mph across the infield, also plays outfield, shows athletic actions, attacks the ball and plays through, showed very accurate arm at 79 mph with all throws on the bag.  At the plate, hits from a balanced stance, short stride, good balance, good use of lower half, stays inside the ball well with a pull approach, barreled up several pitches during his round, ran 7.34 60 yard dash, 78 mph tee exit velocity, good young prospect.
