Unsigned Senior Showcase: First Base Analysis

On Sunday, December 14 a total of 37 unsigned seniors convened at Legends Sports Academy for the PBR Kentucky Winter Unsigned Senior Showcase.  The group produced some very impressive performances which we will feature over the coming days.

The following is a look at the group of first basemen that participated at the event.  This is position player analysis only.  Those first basemen that also pitched at the event will have their pitching evaluations featured in a separate article.

Tyler Neeley, 1B, R/R, Trinity HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 230-pound prospect, physical/strong frame, set PBR Kentucky record with 100 mph exit velocity off the tee, explosive use of strong lower half, ball jumps off bat, shows power to all fields during round of batting practice, posted 4.77 home to first base time.  Defensively, hands play on ground balls, moves well for big guy, feet show athleticism, showed 79 mph arm strength across the infield.

Todd Ramey, 1B, R/R, Highlands HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect, strong frame, right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, showed more consistent use of lower half from previous event and it resulted in a significant increase in bat speed, 91 mph exit velocity off the tee, solid round of batting practice that showed his power potential especially to the pull side, ran 4.76 home to first time.  Defensively, shows good athleticism for size, hands work, good feet around the first base bag, 77 mph arm across the infield with accurate throws.

Nigel Ouslan, 1B, R/R, North Hardin HS, 2015
6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect, right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance with minimal stride, maintains some balance, shorter swing path with line drive production, tends to cut off lower half finish, registered 73 mph exit velocity off the tee, 4.80 home to first time.  Defensively, shows playable hands, quick exchange in starting the double play, 71 mph arm strength across the infield.

Thomas Case, 1B, R/R, Fairdale HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect, right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance and utilizes a leg kick trigger, can involve more use of lower half, lacks extension, foot gets down late at times , line drive type hitter when he squares it up, registered 77 mph exit velocity off the tee, 4.99 home to first time.  Defensively, shows adequate hands, room for quicker footwork, 69 mph arm across the infield with mostly accurate throws.
