Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Highlands RHP Joseph Martin

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Joseph Martin, RHP, Highlands HS, 2015martin

At 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, Martin’s frame should have no problem holding up to the rigors of being a starting pitcher at the collegiate level.  His arm is quick and works mostly through a high-3/4 arm slot that produced an 83-85 mph fastball at the Unsigned Senior Games at Northern Kentucky University in August.  In addition, Martin’s fastball touched 86 mph on a few occasions in a game I saw him pitch last spring.  He throws a sharp breaking ball at 72-73 mph with late break and tends to drop down slightly to a ¾ slot on his 74-76 mph changeup that shows good arm-side run.  At the Unsigned Senior Games, Martin allowed one hit and struck out two in two scoreless innings of work.

Look for Martin, ranked No. 46 in Kentucky’s 2015 class, to play a very key role for Highlands in 2015 as the Bluebirds look to avenge their 9th Region Championship game loss last season.
