Unsigned Senior Spotlight: RHP/MIF Sammy Holder

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

Sammy Holder, RHP/MIF, Lewis County HS, 2014holder

Sammy Holder is a 5-foot-10, 165-pound, left-handed hitting RHP/MIF who has been impressive during the Fall Prospect Program.

On the mound, Holder uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot.  His fastball has sat consistently 83-85 mph this fall and has topped out at 87.  What has been even more impressive is his ability to command his 66-69 mph curveball.  Holder has complete confidence in the pitch and will throw it on any count and any situation.  His 75-76 mph changeup has proven to be an effective secondary pitch as well.

Holder has allowed no earned runs and racked up 9 strikeouts in his last 6 innings of work.  His ability to work both sides of the plate and keep hitters off-balance should bode well for him at the next level.

In addition to his work on the mound, Holder has showcased an 85 mph arm across the infield and 90 mph exit velocity off the tee this fall.

Holder is currently ranked No.40 in Kentucky's 2014 class.
