2018 Prospects To Watch For

With the recent release of the updated class of 2017 player rankings, it is time for Prep Baseball Report Louisiana to begin looking at Louisiana’s class of 2018 prospects. Today we will look at few rising sophomores that have made impressions early on in their high school careers.

This event will be open to all 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 prospects. 2018 Prospects

+ Landon Marceaux, RHP, Destrehan HS(2018)
A 6-foot, 170-pound right-hander with a strong, athletic and projectable frame. Clean, loose arm action with rhythm and tempo throughout the delivery into a high-3/4 release. Athletic delivery that repeats well with normal effort. Shows a mid-80s fastball with life and command in strike zone. Displays advanced feel for secondary pitches. Shows a curveball with 11/5 shape, spins correctly and has quality depth. Slider has tight spin and late, hard break. Advanced changeup with fastball arm speed, depth and deception. Garnering major interest on the recruiting trial and currently ranked No. 13 in Prep Baseball Report’s 2018 Overall Rankings.

+ Slade Bolden, OF, West Monroe HS(2018)
A 5-foot-11, 183-pound outfielder with an athletic, strong frame.  Defensively he shows soft hands, fluid footwork, and a clean exchange in the outfield with a positional velocity of 83 mph at the Underclass Games with a long arm action, over the top release and accuracy on throws. Right-handed hitter with a balanced, athletic setup with little to no load, short stride and explosive lower half. Shows a short path with quality extension, gap to gap approach with juice to the pull side and quality bat speed that produced an 87 mph exit velocity. Posted a 7.0 60 yard dash at the Underclass Trials.

+ Jay Curtis, C/INF, John Curtis HS(2018)
A 6-foot, 215-pound catcher with a large, strong frame. Right-handed hitter with athletic, balanced setup, smooth load, efficient lower half, and solid balance throughout the swing. Line-drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, level bat path, and fluid rhythm in the swing with bat speed that produced an 81 mph exit velocity. Defensively shows solid receiving skills with a clean exchange recording a consistent pop time of 2.2 and a positional velocity of 72 mph. Also ran a 7.63 60 yard dash.

+ Zane Zeppuhar, OF/LHP, St. Amant HS(2018)
A 5-foot-10, 170-pound outfielder and left-handed pitcher with an athletic, strong frame. Solid defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, solid athleticism with a loose arm out of a high-3/4 slot that produced an 85 mph positional velocity with carry on throws. Left-handed hitter with a tall setup, slight wrap in the load, short stride, explosive lower half, and excellent balance. Shows an in and out type path with a line-drive, opposite field approach, fluid rhythm and solid bat speed that produced an 87 mph exit velocity. Left-handed pitcher with a long arm action, slight wrap, quick arm speed with regular effort, in-line direction, lands square and throws out of high-3/4 slot. Fastball sits 80-82 mph with quality command to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball shows 1/7 shape with near fastball arm speed, gradual break, and solid depth at 69-70 mph. Also flashes a solid change up with near fastball arm speed at 72-73 mph.
