The Catholic League, out of the New Orleans, LA area, proved to be another tough district in 2021.  John Curtis, Holy Cross, and St. Paul's all had tremendous seasons, as well as Brother Martin.  Holy Cross fell victim to St. Paul's in the post-season, while Brother Martin fell to John Curtis in the second round of the playoffs, and Jesuit won the Division I State Championship over C.E. Byrd.  After finishing the 2021 season with a 22-14 overall record (8-7 in district), the Crusaders are looking to get back to the state tournament this spring, and Head Coach Jeff Lupo believes that the veteran experience on this year's team is one of their biggest strengths.  On the mound, Brother Martin will be led by Senior RHP Alex Laiche, who was an All-District performer in 2021.  Laiche sports a quality three pitch mix, for strikes in any count, with a FB that will run up into the mid-80's.  Look for 2022 LHP Caden Durand to be in the rotation with Laice as well.  Offensively, the Crusaders will be led by 6'3" 225 lbs. 1B Sully Stringer, who is a Louisiana Tech signee.  Stringer should be a staple in the middle of the lineup this season with pull side power from the right side.  The Brother Martin offense fills in nicely around Stringer with guys like Bryce Gauthier, Colin Roussel, Eli Booth, and Andrew Sieta, all of which, received significant playing time last spring.  Mixing in with these veterans, will be a talented group of incoming freshman.  Most of these 2025's were on the 2019 Eastbank Little League World Series team that won the 2019 Little League World Series, becoming the first team from Louisiana to do so.  2025 Reece Roussel probably "rings a bell" for baseball fans in Louisiana, as Roussel was dominant during the team's 2019 Little League World Series run and now brings his talents to the high school level with Brother Martin.  As we've mentioned, the Catholic League, will again be a super tough district in 2022, however, the Crusaders will come out of district play battle tested, which always bodes well for post-season play.  The offense will likely carry the way for this year's team, as they figure out their pitching rotation behind Alex Laiche, and we expect Brother Martin to be right in the thick of things come late-April and early-May, fighting for a spot to return to the state tournament in Sulphur, LA.
