2024 Team Preview: Dutchtown High School
February 15, 2024
The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our popular Game of the Week segment.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the bayou state. Each week, we will be releasing our players of the week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, and many more pieces of content.
*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook
Dutchtown finished the 2023 season with a 26-12 overall record. The Griffins defeated Mandeville in the first round of the playoffs, before meeting up with Live Oak in the second round, where their season would ultimately end. There will be a lot of new faces for Head Coach Chris Schexnaydre and company this spring, as Dutchtown only returns two postion players and two pitchers from last season's team. Coach Schexnaydre doesn't view that as a negative though, and is quite excited to see all of these new guys compete. Senior RHP Jordan Oberle was one of the top starting pitchers for the Griffins last spring and will be relied upon heavily again this season. The Delgado Community College recruit earned All-District and All-Metro honors in 2023, after posting a 6-2 record with a 1.61 ERA. Fellow seniors Max Heintze and Ethan Aucoin were also able to log meaningful innings last year and are looking to have their roles increased this season. Heintze, another Delgado Community College recruit, appeared in eleven games last season and earned 3 saves, while Aucoin tallied three starts, but did not have a decision. Offensively, the two guys who return for the Griffins with the most varsity experience from a season ago are senior Carter Hanberry and junior Casey McCoy. Hanberry is a Southeastern Louisiana football recruit and is a guy who can hit for power and can run, and he's also one of the leaders of this year's Dutchtown squad. McCoy is one of the best infielders in the state, regardless of class, and was a member of our Future Games team last summer. The Louisiana-Lafayette recruit hit 3 HR's last spring and is a guy who can hit for average and power, while also playing solid defense up the middle. A newcomer that we've been impressed with in our looks is junior Dylan Champagne. The 6'3" left-handed hitting catcher is one of the top uncommitted player's in the state's 2025 class, thanks to a sweet left-handed stroke combined with really good catch and throw skills. District 5-5A is always competitive, year in and year out, with the likes of Dutchtown, Live Oak, Denham Springs, St. Amant, Walker, and East Ascension. Coach Schexnaydre consistently puts a talented and well-coached club on the field every year, and even with a lot of new faces this spring, we still feel like Dutchtown will be a state tournament contender this coming season.
