ArkLatex Open: Outfield Analysis

At the end of June, the first annual ArkLaTex Open was held at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. Today, we look at a more in-depth analysis from the outfielders in attendance at the event.

Outfielders (Listed Alphabetically)

+ Ethan Alston, OF, St. Thomas Aquinas HS (LA), 2021
Athletic 5-foot-9, 154-pound frame. Showed athleticism running a 7.01 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter hits from tall, athletic setup, mechanically quiet with short stride. Line-drive type approach with short, slight up-hill path, fluid rhythm and solid bat speed; produced exit velocity of 81 mph. Outfielder with decent hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while playing through baseball athletically. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with average arm strength; recording an outfield positional velocity of 77 mph. Infielder with soft hands, good footwork and quick, clean exchanges while working through ball athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws and developing arm strength, produced an infield positional velocity of 75 mph.

+ Matthew Bihm, OF, Centreville Academy (LA), 2020
Athletic 5-foot-11, 183-pound frame. Left-handed hitter hits from tall, open, athletic setup, working backwards with leg lift, and loose rhythm. Gap-to-gap type approach with level swing path, fluid rhythm, and advanced bat speed; produced exit velocity of 94 mph. Outfielder with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while playing through ball athletically. Long, loose, arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and solid arm strength, produced a positional velocity of 81 mph.  Showed some athleticism running a 7.04 60-yard dash.

+ Bailey Burtram, OF, Ouachita Christian HS (LA), 2019
Long, athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from tall, athletic setup, working backwards with subtle leg lift, and loose rhythm landing balanced and on time. Line-drive approach with level swing path, early rhythm, and solid bat speed; produced exit velocity of 86 mph. Outfielder with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while playing through baseball athletically. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws; recording an outfield positional velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash.

+ Payton DeRanger, OF, Delcambre HS (LA), 2017
Athletic 6-foot, 167-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from tall, athletic setup, working backwards with subtle leg lift, with loose rhythm. Level swing with long, rotational path, and developing rhythm and solid bat speed; produced exit velocity of 84 mph.  Outfielder with decent hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while playing through baseball athletically. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws; recording an outfield positional velocity of 81 mph. Ran a 7.02 60-yard dash.

+ Davis Johnson, OF, Sterlington HS (LA), 2019
Long, lanky 6-foot-1, 145-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from tall, athletic setup, with subtle leg lift, short stride, solid balance and slight bat wrap. Line-drive type approach with slight up-hill path and developing rhythm; produced exit velocity of 79 mph. Outfielder with solid footwork and clean exchanged, working through baseball athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release producing outfield positional velocity of 77 mph. Infielder with active feet, clean exchanges while fielding ball deep. Short arm action into ¾ release with accuracy producing an infield positional velocity of 73 mph.

+ Blake Linzay, OF, West Ouachita HS (LA), 2019
Long 5-foot-10, 150-pound frame. Showed athleticism running a 7.26 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with looseness in hands.  Smooth subtle leg lift load, with short stride landing balanced. Line-drive/pull approach with long, slight uphill path and developing bat speed producing an exit velocity of 78 mph. Outfielder with decent hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while playing through baseball athletically. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with solid arm strength and carry on throws; recording a positional velocity of 82 mph.

+ Garrison Lowder, OF, West Ouachita HS (LA), 2019
Long 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from wide, athletic setup, with no load and short stride. Short, compact, line-drive type approach with developing rhythm and bat speed; produced an exit velocity of 70 mph. Outfielder with decent hands, fluid footwork and long, clean exchanges while playing through ball athletically. Long high-3/4 arm action with stiffness and accuracy, developing arm strength, recorded a positional velocity of 69 mph. Ran a 7.14 60-yard dash.

+ Jacob Roark, OF, West Monroe HS (LA), 2020
Long 6-foot, 152-pound frame. Showed athleticism running a 7.12 60-yard dash. Left-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with low hands, working backwards in load with short stride. Gap-to-gap approach, with level path and developing bat speed producing an exit velocity of 76 mph. Outfielder with decent hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while playing through baseball athletically. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws and developing arm strength; recording a positional velocity of 71 mph.
