The 2016 high school season in Louisiana kicked off last night and naturally the majority of the state was dodging weather to get games in. Prep Baseball Report Louisiana made the trip over to Central (BR) HS as the Wildcats took on St. Paul’s HS in the season opener.

Central (BR) sent 2017 right-handed pitcher, Ma’Khail Hilliard, to the mound and he was solid in four innings of work. Hilliard showed an 84-87 mph fastball with plus life and a sharp slider. He struck out four and gave up two runs, but only one earned.

St. Paul’s scratched two runs across in the top of 3rd, as 2017 infielder, Nick Chifici, singled up the middle and came around to score when William Heurtin reached on an error. Later in the inning, Hunter Romero, a Spring Hill commit, hit a 2-strike hanging breaking ball into left field for a single that stretched the lead to 2-0.

Central (BR) answered in the bottom of the 3rd, as Louisiana-Lafayette commit, Brady Jones hammered a double into the left field corner to cut the lead to 2-1.

Central (BR) would eventually rally and tie the game on a bases loaded walk, and took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th, as an error to start the inning would come all the way around to score.

It was a nice way to start the 2016 season, with the exception of the weather, as two quality teams faced off that are sure to see each other again at some point later in season.
