Commitment Spotlight - 2022 Haydan Toal

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Every prospect has a different road and journey when it comes to the recruiting process.  Some prospects commit as a freshmen or sophomore in high school, while others experience a longer road.  2022 LHP Haydan Toal (Tioga H.S.) is one of those prospects who took his time and has now committed to Louisiana Tech University.  The southpaw was one of the standout performers at the 2020 PBR Future Games, where he struck out 5 across 3 innings of work against Team Texas, working his fastball up to 86 mph.  We had the opportunity to talk with him about his recent commitment, the people who've impacted and helped him along his journey, and advice for younger prospects who are just beginning to navigate the recruiting waters.

-Congratulations on your commitment to Louisiana Tech University.  What were the key deciding factors that led you to commit to the Bulldogs?

When I first walked into the Louisiana Tech facility it felt like home.  They welcomed me in like family.  They are building a program led by sincere and dedicated coaches that are on the rise and I want to be a part of that journey.

-We all have support systems and people that help us throughout life.  Is there anyone you would like to thank for helping you get to this point in the process?

I have been blessed with some great coaches throughout my years of playing.  Whether it was travel ball, showcase, or high school; they have all made an imprint on my life, and not only as a player, but also at becoming a better person.  I would like to thank my parents for all of the time and sacrifice that they have put in, so that I can play the game that I love.  Most of all, I am thankful to God for blessing me with the talent and opportunity to use my abilities to glorify him.

-What advice would you give to younger prospects who are about to enter high school and who are also about to start their recruiting process?

I would tell incoming players that they need to work hard every day and always give maximum effort and try to be better than you were the day before.  It takes commitment, dedication, and patience, because someone is always watching.
