Commitment Spotlight: 2021 Ian Montz

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Most of the top 2021 prospects have already decided on where they will be next fall for their first semester of college.  OF Ian Montz (Acadiana HS) chose a different path and was gracious enough to give us feedback on why he decided to commit to Pearl River Community College.  The state's 10th ranked player overall has had a standout career for the Wreckin Rams on the diamond and on the gridiron, as Montz is regarded as one of the top defensive backs in Louisiana as well.  Here are Ian's comments in our interview with him after his commitment.

-Congratulations on your commitment to Pearl River Community College.  What were the key factors in your decision making process?

"The key factors of my commitment to PRCC was their program.  I absolutely loved their program.  They produce a lot of Power 5 guys and professional guys.  The coaches are awesome and they were really into me and are determined to make me better, both on the field and off the field."

-As talented as you are in baseball, we know that you are just as talented in football as well.  Will you play both sports in college or just focus on one?

"I will just be focusing on baseball in college.  Baseball is my first love and always has been since I was in diapers.  I plan on continuing to strive towards my goals, which is to play in the big leagues one day!"

-We all have support systems in place to make us better and to help us achieve our goals.  Are there any people that you'd like to personally thank for helping you on your journey to get to this point?

"I would like to thank God.  Without the man upstairs, I wouldn't have the opportunity to play the game that I love.  My coaches; Coach Clay, who is my head baseball coach, my Team Louisiana coaches, and also my teammates.  Last, but not least, and most importantly...my family.  My mom has done so much for me to give me the opportunity to play the game that I love and I can't thank her enough.  I also want to thank my sister, my little brother and other family friends."

-Lastly, what can we expect from Acadiana this season?

"This year we are on our way to a state championship.  I love the team that we have.  We are a hard nosed baseball team and as our coaches like to say, we have a lot of potential to do big things this year.  Hopefully, in the end, it all pans out to us earning a ring!"
