Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Our Week 3 Edition of Diamond Notes is here, as we highlight some of the top performances, from across the state in Week 3 (03/07/22-03/13/22), as well as our Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week.  To submit your player(s) for next week's edition of Diamond Notes, please email Alex Armand ([email protected]) with the player's name, class, position, and any relevant statistics from the week.  We are fired up for what's in store in Week 3 and the rest of the season!

Player of the Week

Chris Kelley C / C / Pineville, LA / 2022

Kelly was on fire at the plate last week for the Rebels.  The Louisiana Christian Signee hit 2 homeruns, on double, and drove in twelve runs in thirteen at-bats, finishing with six total hits for the week.   One of those homeruns ended up being a pivotal turning point of Pineville's victory over perennial Class 4A power, St. Thomas More.

Pitcher of the Week

Hayden Robinson RHP / SS / Berwick, LA / 2023

The uncommitted pitching prospect out of Berwick made a name for himself at last summer's Future Games and that success has rolled into the high school season this spring, as Berwick is off to an 11-2 start.  Against Loreauville HS last week, Robinson earned the win for Berwick, by tossing a complete game, while giving up only one earned run and striking out twelve.

Other Top Performers

Jake Brown LHP / OF / Sulphur, LA / 2023

Brown has been the guy on the mound and at the plate for the Tors this season, who are off to a 17-3 start.  Last week, the LSU commit went ten for seventeen at the plate with two doubles, one triple, five runs, seven runs batted in, and five stolen bases.  On the mound, Brown recorded another win against then undefeated Live Oak HS, by throwing a complete game, while giving up only four hits and striking out six.

Austin Ackel 3B / RHP / John Curtis Christian, LA / 2023

One of the top uncommitted two-way prospects in the 2023 class; Ackel got it done at the plate and on the mound for the Patriots last week.  He threw five innings against ED White and gave up no runs, one hit, and struck out ten, in a 10-0 win for John Curtis.  Offensively, Ackel recorded two homeruns with seven runs batted in, finishing the week three for six at the plate.

Jackson Legg 1B / LHP / Calvary Baptist, LA / 2023

Back healthy from an off-season surgery; Legg is starting to get things going for the Cavaliers in the hopes of making a repeat run at the state tournament in May.  Offensively, he went six for ten on the week, with one double and six runs batted in, and also stole five bases.  On the mound, the southpaw earned a win against Cedar Creek allowing just one hit over four innings pitched, while striking out four.

Donnell Sandifer C / 1B / A M Barbe , LA / 2022

The Bucs offense was on fire this past week and Donnie Sandifer may have been the hottest hitter of them all.  In seventeen at-bats, the Southern University signee collected a whopping eleven hits, with five doubles, one triple, and one homerun, while driving in a total of fourteen runs.
