Future Games Recap: Louisiana Catchers

PBR Louisiana Staff
PBR Louisiana

Team Louisiana's 2019 PBR Future Games experience was a great one, as the 2019 group finished the weekend 2-1 with wins over Texas and Arkansas/Kansas. Players up and down the roster made noise and impressions on the hundreds of college coaches in attendance at the event. Over the next few days, Louisiana Scouting Director Trey Sofio and Louisiana Assistant Scouting Director Walt Jones will recap Team Louisiana’s weekend with notes and observations from the prospects in attendance, broken down by position group.

Yesterday we broke down the outfield group from Team Louisiana’s 2019 PBR Future Games club, which you can view HERE.

On Monday, our scouting staff broke down the middle infield group, which you can view HERE.

Today, our scouting staff breaks down the three catchers that represented the state of Louisiana in Atlanta at the annual mega-event.

Below are reports on the three from the weekend:

Andrew Glass C / SS / Barbe, LA / 2022

Rangy 6-foot, 160-pound frame with room to add strength as physical maturity comes. Projection to the frame with broader shoulders that will add strength over time. Above average athlete for position with loose, fluid movements, posted a laser-timed 7.26 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter, starts from tall setup, athletic in the box, starting slightly open. Rhythmic negative momentum with a medium leg kick, gets back to even. Occasional length in swing, slightly uphill path, creates leverage with wiry limbs. Productive weekend offensively, showed bat speed with strength at contact, and posted an 85 mph exit velocity.  Athletic defender, works from a wide balanced setup, gives inviting target, receives the baseball softly. Medium arm action with clean exchanges into high-3/4 release. Showed arm strength with easy carry and accuracy on throws, posted 2.01-second pop time, and 79 mph positional velocity.

Carson Carey C / OF / Airline, LA / 2022

Long 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame, strong build. Room to add strength, wide hips that can handle added size/strength. Right-handed hitter that hits from a tall setup, athletic in the box, starts and stays even with hands starting around the back shoulder. Controlled, pronounced leg-kick, creates momentum, syncs up with hands, creates quality separation, and gets hands loaded into slot as front foot engages. Repeatable, slightly rotational swing with strength in hands, and bat speed, posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. Advanced receiving ability, creates inviting target, relaxed setup, soft hands that stops the baseball. Shows advanced feel to block. Quick, clean transfers with short arm action into high-3/4 release, quality arm strength with carry and accuracy, posted 2.04-second pop time, and 78 mph positional velocity. Plays with presence behind the dish. Looks comfortable, and confident with a balanced setup, stays squared and centered.
