Friday FEBRUARY 22, 2019

Game One

Lafayette                   3
Central(BR)              2

Game 1 Recap:

BATON ROUGE, LA – In game one of a double header at Central(BR) high school on Friday afternoon, the Wildcats hosted the Lafayette Lions in a 4:00 PM start. Both clubs would get quality starts on the mound, with Lafayette claiming a 3-2 win against the defending class 5A champs.

2019 OF Christopher Battaglia (Lafayette HS, LA) was the offensive standout on the day, as the right-handed hitter finished the day 3-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI, and a run scored.

2020 SS Randon Cahanin (Lafayette HS, LA) had the big hit for the Lions, as the right-handed hitter doubled down the left-field line with two outs in the top of the 4th, driving in two runs to reclaim a 3-2 lead after the Wildcats had pushed across two runs in the bottom of the 3rd.

The Lions got an outstanding start on the mound from Tyler Leblanc, as the left-hander tossed six innings, allowing two runs on two hits, while striking out six. 2020 RHP Jacob Tate (Lafayette HS, LA) closed out the 7th inning for Lions, picking up the save, tossing a clean inning, and striking out one.

Southeastern Louisiana recruit, 2019 RHP Dalton Aspholm (Central(BR) HS, LA) was solid in his 5-inning outing on Friday night, giving up two earned runs on four hits, while striking out six in five innings of work. An athletic right-handed pitcher, Aspholm showed a clean, loose arm action and polish to his delivery. He pitched 86-90 mph with his fastball, showing late life to the arm side, and added quality secondary stuff with a sharp breaking ball at 73-76 mph.

Game Two

West Ouachita      1
Central(BR)          5

Game 2 Recap:

BATON ROUGE, LA – The Wildcats got back on track in game two of Friday’s double header, defeating West Ouachita 5-1.

2021 RHP Connor Cassels (Central(BR) HS, LA) gave the Wildcats an outstanding start, as the young right-hander was affective in five innings of work, allowing 0 earned runs on seven hits.

Louisiana State recruit, 2019 RHP Thomas Wilhite (West Ouachita HS, LA) got the start opposite Cassels on Friday, and the physical 6-foot-4 right-hander showed off electric stuff on occasions Friday night. Pitching 88-91 mph, touching 92 mph with his fastball, he overmatched hitters, but his pitch count ran up quickly as he struggled to fully get in a rhythm. He allowed two earned runs on three hits in 3 and 2/3 innings of work, and struck out nine.

Offensively, the Wildcats were led by Jimmie Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Andrew Myrick, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

2019 IF Luke Farrar (West Ouachita HS, LA) finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored, while 2019 IF Connor Jones (West Ouachita HS, LA) also had a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-2 in the contest.
