It is crazy to think that most teams are now half way through district play.  After a few early season losses, Live Oak has won 5 straight games and is sitting at #3 in the latest Class 5A polls.  Walker has been one of the biggest surprises in Class 5A owning a 19-5 record and are currently sitting at #6 in the latest Class 5A polls.  The Eagles took Game 1 last night on the road and the two teams will meet again tomorrow night at Live Oak for our Week 7 Game of the Week.  Below, we take a look at some of the top players for both clubs ahead of their matchup. 

 

Walker High School

Record: 19-5

Current Ranking: #6 in Class 5A

Key Wins: West Monroe, St. Amant

Runs Scored: 174 (7.25 runs scored/game)

Runs Allowed: 85 (3.5 runs allowed/game)

 

Coach Carver and the Walker Wildcats were one of the surprise teams in Class 5A through the first half of the season.  They are now 19-5 and currently sit at #6 in the latest Class 5A rankings.  Last night, they took a loss in Game 1 against Live Oak by a score of 8-4 and use their #1 on the mound in 2021 RHP Grant Edwards (East Central Community College Signee).  Tomorrow night, we expect Coach Carver to go with 2022 Caleb Webb on the mound.  Webb was really good last week for Walker in a win over Scottlandville as he tossed 4 innings, giving up 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, with 1 BB and 11 K's, and should also be a key bat in the lineup tomorrow night as well.  2021 Spencer Murray (Texas A&M-Texarkana Signee) went 3-4 with a 2B in the losing effort and 2021 Camden Carver (LSU-Alexandria Signee) went 1-3 with a R, RBI, and a BB out of the leadoff spot for the Wildcats.

 

Live Oak High School

Record: 23-4

Current Ranking: #3 in Class 5A

Key Wins: Catholic BR, Zachary

Runs Scored: 230 (8.5 runs scored/game)

Runs Allowed: 78 (2.9 runs allowed/game)

 

The Live Oak Eagles came into the season as one of the favorites in Class 5A.  After a few early season losses, the club has started to get things rolling; winning their last 5 games and moving up a spot to #3 in the latest Class 5A rankings.  2022 LHP Tanner Roberts and 2021 RHP Michael Summers were both used in Game 1 last night and will be unavailable for tomorrow night's contest.  We expect Coach Cassard to go with 2022 LHP Dawson Curtin (University of Louisiana Commit) or 2021 LHP Ethan Prescott (Baton Rouge Community College Signee) on the mound.  Both are strike throwers who have competed each time their number has been called this season.  Offensively, the Eagles have really started to get things going thanks to 2021 C Blaise Priester (Meridian Community College Signee).  The potential 2021 MLB Draft pick has moved back into the leadoff spot and went 1-3 with a HR and 2 RBI in Game 1.  2021 Grant Landry (Baton Rouge Community College Signee) has also been very good for Live Oak all year and went 2-4 with 2 2B and 2 RBI in last night's contest.
