HIgh School Team Preview: Northshore

Trey Sofio
Louisiana Scouting Director

The Louisiana high school season kicks off on February 18, the first day for regular season games. Most teams began practice on January 22nd, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

Stat Rat ( x-factor)

The Panthers look to follow up on an impressive 2018 season, as they reached the 30-win mark. Offensively they return one of the best left-handed hitters in the state of Louisiana in Nicholls State recruit, 2019 3B Brayden Jobert. Jobert has been a fixture in the middle of the Northshore lineup for years now, and has been a consistent run-producer throughout his high school career. Another returning starter that will play a big role in the 2019 season for the Panthers is Southeastern Louisiana recruit, 2019 2B Christian Garcia. Garcia gives the Panthers another veteran bat atop the lineup, and provides stability up the middle defensively. PBR Future Games participant, 2020 C Logan Doody should give the Northshore defense and pitching staff a boost this spring. A talented, high-energy player, Doody has the ability to really affect the game on defense by shutting down an opponents running game, and stealing strikes for his pitching staff.

Outlook

Expectations are high for Coach Glenn Rivero, as he will field another talented roster in 2019. The Panthers return three every day starters and four pitchers for the 2019 season, possess a potent combination of hitting ability and team speed, offensively. A state title is certainly in their sights as they head into the spring, but first they will look to repeat as District 6-5A champs.
