High School Team Preview: Northshore

Trey Sofio
Louisiana Scouting Director

The Louisiana high school season officially kicks off on February 19, the first day for regular season games, with organized team practice starting later this month.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

X-Factor

2019 3B Brayden Jobert has been a staple in the middle of the Panther lineup for some time now, and the Junior looks primed to have another productive season. A physical 6-foot, 180-pound left-handed hitter, Jobert has shown feel to hit from the time he entered high school. Hitting from a balanced, athletic setup, Jobert uses a line-drive approach and an advanced bat path with bat speed and strength at contact. As he has continued to add strength and size, Jobert has begun to show flashes of power potential, creating leverage in his swing, as he is back spinning and driving the baseball with more consistency.

Outlook

After finishing the 2017 season 24-12 and reaching the quarterfinals, the Panthers head into the 2018 season as an experienced club, returning six everyday players and five pitchers. Coach Glenn Rivero will rely on that talented and experienced lineup to be the strength during the 2018 season. Led by Jobert, the Northshore lineup has depth to it with guys like 2018 C Hunter May, 2018 OF Mikey Stutes, 2019 OF Branyan Bounds, and 2019 2B Christian Garcia. The Panthers should be right in the thick of the race for the district 6-5A title, and hope to improve upon last season’s quarterfinal playoff run.
