High School Team Preview: Terrebonne

Trey Sofio
Louisiana Scouting Director

The Louisiana high school season officially kicks off on February 19, the first day for regular season games, with organized team practice starting later this month.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

LHSAA District: 7-5A
Head Coach: John Gatlin
Playoff Run: Playoffs - 1st Round
2017 Final Rank: N/A
Returning Starters: 5
Returning Pitchers: 4

TOP PLAYERS

Jace Gatlin, C, (2018)
Brennon Guidry, OF/UTIL, (2018)
Mason Turner, OF/UTIL, (2018)
Cole Lovell, IF/RHP, (2019)

X-Factor

Nicholls State recruit, Mason Turner, was certainly a presence in the Terrebonne lineup last season, and athletic outfielder should have improved production in his senior campaign. Although likely an outfielder when he eventually makes his way to Nicholls State, Turner wears several hats for the Tigers, including significantly contributing on the mound.

Outlook

After winning 15 games and reaching the playoffs in 2017, the Tigers have high expectations going into the 2018 campaign. Returning five starters and four pitchers, Coach Gatlin will look to that experienced lineup, as they look to improve upon last season’s playoff appearance.
