Yesterday Prep Baseball Report Louisiana previewed the Louisiana class 5A state championship bracket. Today we take a look at the remainder of the classifications that will decide state champions in Sulphur this weekend.

In class 4A, the defending state champion St. Thomas More HS will take on St. Michael in one semi-final matchup. In the other semi-final game, number 1 seed Tioga HS will take on Teurlings Catholic HS.

In class 3A, John Curtis HS will take on Iowa HS in one semi-final and Evangel HS will take on Parkview Baptist HS. It appears we may see a rematch of last year’s state championship in this classification, but both teams still have tall tasks in front of them to accomplish that feat.

In class 2A, defending champion Kinder HS will take on number 1 seed Doyle HS and Oak Grove HS will match up with Runnels HS.

In class 1A, number 1 seed Ouachita Christian HS looks to continue their impressive season as they will take on Covenant Christian HS in one semi-final matchup. While St. Edmund HS will take on Central Catholic HS in the other semi-final matchup.

In class B, Choudrant HS will face Florien HS in a semi-final game, and Fairview HS will match up against Maurepas HS.

In class C, Elizabeth HS will play Summerfield HS and Claiborne Christian HS will play Downsville HS.

Reminder: Prep Baseball Report Louisiana will be hosting its first event on Monday May 25, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas HS in Hammond, LA. The Underclass Trials is an open event for 2017 & 2018 graduates. Very few spaces remain, so do not wait to register. All participants at the Underclass Trials will have their performance videotaped and hosted in their player profile, along with their verified statistics and scouting reports at PrepBaseballReport.com, which is subscribed to by more than 400 colleges and pro scouts across the country. Top players will be listed accordingly in our statewide player rankings.

+C/1B, Nick Webre, Teurlings Catholic HS(2017)
A 5-foot-10, 185-pound catcher from Lafayette, LA. Strong, athletic build with present strength. Average defensive catcher that receives and throws OK. Left-handed hitter with loose, whippy barrel, rhythm and tempo, finds the barrel consistently with big power to the pull side. Currently ranked number 4 in Louisiana’s 2017 class and number 113 overall.

+OF/1B, Tremaine Spears, Tioga HS(2016)
A 5-foot-11, 195-pound first baseman with strong, physical frame. Right-handed hitter with rotational type swing, loads of bat speed and strength at contact. Displays quick hands, solid hand-eye coordination, and present projectable power. Shows to be a solid athlete with quality foot speed for his size, can play both the outfield and first base. Hit .458 with 7HR 42 RBI and scored 50 runs only striking out 9 times. A Louisiana-Lafayette commit currently ranked number 18 in Louisiana’s 2016 class and number 312 overall.

+INF/C, Chris Reid, St. Michaels HS(2015)
A 5-foot-10, 175-pound Louisiana State signee from Baton Rouge, LA.  An advanced left-handed hitter with loads of bat speed, loose whippy power, consistent line drive contact with power to both gaps.  Has a ton of moving parts, but displays exceptional timing and handles velocity extremely well.  Likely projects to second base, he has soft hands, arm strength, understands angles and hops, but lacks in range.  Would be hard to imagine him not being a productive offensive player as he advances. Currently ranked number 14 in Louisiana’s 2015 class.

+LHP, Hogan Harris, St. Thomas More(2015)
A 6-foot-2, 195-pound left-hander from Lafayette, LA.  Harris pitches 88-92 mph and will touch 94 with hard late life.  Extremely fast arm out of mid-3/4 release with angle to the plate. Drops and drives to the plate, causing some angle to be lost, spinning off to occur, and making the landing look violent.  The breaking ball has tight spin with 11/5 shape and good depth.  Harris shows average feel and command for the baseball, but the deception created in the delivery to go along with an extremely heavy fastball at 92 mph will makes him difficult on left-handed hitters. Currently ranked number 6 in Louisiana’s 2015 class and number 27 overall.

+OF/LHP, Brennan Breaux, St. Thomas More(2015)
A 6-foot, 180-pound outfielder from Lafayette, LA. Breaux displays centerfield tools as he is a 6.7 runner with good instincts and tracking speed.  He makes consistently strong on line throws with carry and accuracy.  He hits from the left side with smooth rhythm and tempo, transfers his weight efficiently, and the barrel stays in hitting zone. Louisiana State signee currently ranked number 5 in Louisiana’s 2015 class and number 130 overall.

+INF, O’Neal Lochridge, St. Thomas More(2015)
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Louisiana State commit and number 3 ranked player in Louisiana's 2015 class was impressive in his senior campaign helping lead St. Thomas More to the number 2 seed in the 4A playoffs. The right-handed hitter showed a short, compact swing with bat speed, quality bat path, and creates natural leverage in the swing. Although he may project to third base at the next level, Lochridge shows quality actions, arm strength and overall athletic ability playing shortstop.

+C, Christian Leonard, St. Thomas More(2016)
A 6-foot-1, 210-pound catcher with a strong, athletic frame and currently ranked No. 12 in Louisiana’s 2016 class. Flashes the ability to catch at the next level with quality arm strength and presence behind the dish, but hands can get stiff and tends to stab. Left-handed hitter with short, compact, flat stroke with bat speed and loads of strength at contact.

+C, Ryne Ray, Evangel HS(2015)
A 6-foot-2, 215-pound catcher with a strong, physical and durable frame. Shows above average arm strength with good carry on throws. Athletic defender with decent receiving and blocking skills. Right-handed hitter with some raw power and bat speed. Very good overall athlete and a surprisingly good runner, 6.9 60, for a catcher. Louisiana-Lafayette signee and currently ranked number 16 in Louisiana’s 2015 class.

+OF/LHP, Daniel Cabrera, John Curtis HS(2017)
A 6-foot, 170-pound Louisiana State commit with an athletic, strong frame and ranked No. 1 in the ’17 class and number 8 overall. Left-handed hitter with advanced hit tool, bat speed, quality leverage in swing, and advanced hand-eye coordination. Hits to all fields with backspin, smooth runner with tracking instincts in the outfield. Left-handed pitcher with clean, smooth delivery, strong front-side and repeats extremely well. Fastball sits 86-88 mph with life and command. Shows a tight spinning breaking ball with 2/8 shape, depth, deception and late, hard break at 74-76 mph. Shows an above average changeup with fastball arm speed, deception, and plus late, hard fade action with depth.

+RHP, Adam Tarver, Parkview Baptist HS(2015)
A 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-handed pitcher from Baton Rouge, LA. Big bodied frame with thick, strong lower half. Displays a fast arm out of a high-3/4 release, creates deception in delivery as he throws across his body slightly, and creates quality angle of descent. Fastball will sit 87-89 mph with life and control. Throws a power curveball with 10/4 shape, tight spin, quality depth at 75-77. Has shown a decent feel for a changeup at times that could become an average pitch down the road. Nicholls State signee currently ranked number 30 in Louisiana’s 2015 class. Pitched at a 0.98 ERA in 57 1/3 innings of work, striking out 73.

+INF/RHP, Dylon Poncho, Kinder HS(2015)
A 5-foot-8, 175-pound shortstop from Elton, LA. Short compact build, with long arms for his size. Right-handed hitter with a short compact swing, some strength at contact, plus bat speed, hits well to all fields, and doesn't swing and miss often. A below average runner, but the instincts and feel for the game allow him to overcome that flaw as a defender. Shows great actions, takes good angles, understands hops, quality first step, and has a plus throwing arm with carry across the diamond. Louisiana-Lafayette signee that is currently ranked number 4 in Louisiana’s 2015 class and number 106 overall.

+SS, Jake Slaughter, Ouachita Christian HS(2016)
A 6-foot-1, 195-pound Louisiana State commit with a long, strong and athletic frame. Battled through a minor wrist injury over this season. Slaughter shows outstanding actions at shortstop catching balls with ease.  Right-handed hitter that has been pitched around much of the spring, but still showed solid power potential hitting 6 Home Runs. Helped lead Ouachita Christian HS to the number 1 seed in 1A playoffs. Currently ranked number 1 in Louisiana’s 2016 class and number

+INF, Ryan Reynolds, Ouachita Christian HS(2016)
A 6-foot-2, 200-pound infielder and University of Texas commit with a large, strong frame. Displays soft hands with quality arm strength from second base, but most likely projects to a corner infield position at the next level. A switch-hitter with raw bat speed, big strength, and big power potential from both sides. A very advanced hitter with solid bat path and raw tools to be a potential premium bat. Currently ranked number 5 in Louisiana’s 2016 class.

+RHP, Aaron George, Ouachita Christian HS(2016)
A 6-foot-5, 200-pound uncommitted right-hander from Monroe, LA. Big bodied frame with present strength that creates outstanding tilt and angle on a mid-80s fastball. Clean arm action with deception in the delivery created by the lead arm hiding the release point. He flashed a quality breaking ball with 11/5 shape that spins well and has quality depth. Currently ranked number 15 in Louisiana’s 2016 class and number 306 nationally.
