6/20/17 Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 180-pound, strong, advanced frame for his class. Currently the No. 1 Ranked player in LA, and No. 53 Overall. Shapen ran a 6.98-second 60-yard dash on our watch. The right-handed hitter has an easy stride and advanced approach for his age, using the middle of the field during BP with hard contact. He has advanced, clean, easy actions at shortstop and moves with fluid footwork. Not often that a rising sophomore competes in the game at Area Code Tryouts but Shapen stood out even among players two years older. High ceiling and outstanding tool set.

Short arm action into high-3/4 release with carry and accuracy on throws across. Right-handed hitter that hits from simple, athletic setup, short stride, and smooth load. Fluid rhythm with simple, direct, compact stroke and bat speed through the zone.  Finished the day 2-for-3 with two singles.
