Prep Baseball Report Louisiana spent this past weekend at events across the state. The following are some notes on players that stood out from the powerhouse Marucci Elite select program, Tulane University and 2Dsports showcases.

Johnny Johnson, MINF, Runnels HS
A 5-foot-10, 160-pound 2016 infielder from Baton Rouge, LA. Compact, strong frame with some fast twitch actions. Quality overall athlete that runs the 60 yard dash in 6.7 seconds. Quality defender with arm strength, soft hands, but third base type feet. Right-handed hitter with short, compact stroke, quality path with some strength at contact. He consistently finds the barrel with some present pull power and occasional gap power.

Ma’khail Hilliard, RHP, Central HS
A 6-foot, 130-pound right-hander from Central HS in Baton Rouge. Long, extremely lean and projectable frame with obvious advanced athletic ability. Clean, repeatable delivery with a long, loose, extremely fast arm and ball explodes out of hand. Fastball sat 84-86 mph with late, hard cutting action and deception. Showed a quality slider with hard, tight spin at 76-77 mph with decent depth and deception. A very intriguing prospect that could have a very high ceiling as he adds weight and gains strength.

Adam Goree, LHP, Barbe HS
A 5-foot-11, 175-pound 2017 left-hander from Barbe HS in Lake Charles, LA. Average, athletic body with some present strength and outstanding body control. Clean, repeatable delivery with outstanding front side that creates some deception for the high-3/4 release. Pitchability left-hander that works extremely fast, attacks hitters in the strike zone, and commands both sides of the plate. Fastball sat 82-83 mph, but has been 84-86 mph and up to 88 in the past. Breaking ball has quality 1/7 shape with depth and deception, but inconsistent spin. Also has a feel for a changeup with some deception and quality arm speed.

Christopher Haggard, RHP, Sam Houston HS
A 6-foot, 150-pound 2017 right-hander from Sam Houston HS. Clean, in-line delivery that works downhill and creates some deception. Loose, fast arm out of a high-3/4 release. Fastball sat 82-83 mph with some angle. Flashed a feel for a slider with tight spin that was off same plane as fastball. Also showed a curveball with 11/5 shape, deception, and depth at 72-73 mph.

Brock Batty, LHP, Denham Springs HS
A 6-foot, 175 pound 2017 left-handed pitcher from Denham Springs HS. Average, athletic frame with clean, repeatable delivery out of a mid-3/4 release. Pitchability left-hander that works fast with a loose, clean arm action, deception in delivery and outstanding rhythm throughout. Fastball sits 83-85 mph with late life and is commanded to both sides of the plate. Flashed a developing breaking ball with 1/7 shape that showed quality spin and depth on occasion. Also showed a feel for a changeup that had some late fade action and deception, but slows his arm speed at times.

Austin Perrin, LHP, Hahnville HS
A 5-foot-10, 170 pound 2017 left-handed pitcher and outfielder from Hahnville HS. Simple, clean, repeatable delivery out of a high-3/4 release and a clean, quick arm. Fastball sat 80-82 mph touching 83 with some arm side run. Flashed a feel for a quality breaking ball with 1/7 shape, deception and depth. Also added a plus feel for a changeup with arm speed, deception and late life. A quality defensive outfielder with above average arm strength for his age. Left-handed hitter with simple, compact swing that finds the barrel and hits to all fields.
