Scouting Report

Smaller, athletic 5-foot-9, 155-pound frame. Super athletic middle infielder, turned in a blazing 6.65 laser-timed 60-yard dash. Left-handed hitter hits from a taller, upright stance, simple load with a minimal, small stride, short compact path with balance and strength throughout, uses a line-drive approach with good rhythm and solid timing, creates good extension and bat speed yielding an exit velocity of 88 mph. Put together outstanding weekend in-game, barreled balls consistently, handled velo and secondary stuff. Showed bat speed and strength to the pull side. Impacts the game on the bases with his quickness and feel to steal bags. Quality defender, with soft hands, active feet, works through balls athletically. Clean, quick exchanges into a short arm action and high-¾ release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced an 88 mph positional velocity. Showed range with quick first step and instincts, getting to balls either way with enough arm strength to finish the play.

The Prep Baseball Report Louisiana scouting staff recently sat down with the PBR Future Games standout to discuss how his recruiting process has gone thus far. Below is a transcript of our question and answer session:

PBR: What schools have you been hearing from?
Holt: Louisiana State, Texas A&M, Louisiana-Lafayette, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Oregon, Tulane, Southeastern Louisiana, and Louisiana-Monroe.

PBR: Have you developed a relationship with any specific coaches?
Holt: All the coaches have been very open when talking, and it’s been nice to get to know them on a personal level.

PBR: Have you taken any unofficial visits? If so, please describe each visit.
Holt: Not yet, I’m waiting to take my official visits starting September 1st.

PBR: Do you have any visits scheduled?
Holt: Yes. Louisiana State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Louisiana-Lafayette.

PBR: Do you have any offers at this stage?
Holt: Yes, I do, and it’s exciting to have coaches interested in you playing for their school.

PBR: Do you have a timeline for your recruitment?
Holt:  I plan on talking with my parents about my offers and then deciding on the best home for me both academically and athletically.

PBR: Do you have a favorite at this stage?
Holt: I really like all the coaches that are recruiting me, but the option to stay close to home is very appealing.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Holt: All the schools that have shown interest are great academically and will help me with my career after baseball. The opportunity to be part of a program where I can better myself as a person and athlete is very important.  As well, having the opportunity to play in a program trying to win a National Championship is everyone’s dream!  The chance to play in front of a great fanbase, and competing at the highest level, against the best players is very attractive.  All these schools check these boxes in my opinion.

PBR: What is your best attribute as a baseball player and how does that transfer onto the field for your team?
Holt: I’m told it’s my speed and quickness.  It allows me to impact the game on offense, as well as defense.

PBR: What part of your game needs the biggest improvement, why, and what will you do to improve it?
Holt:  I just need to get bigger, stronger and continue to improve every aspect of my game from my glove to hitting.  I need to improve every day, because the guys I am competing against are working just as hard, and I need to be the best I can be to help my team win games.

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?
Holt: Is there an offseason?  I’m always in the gym, working on my hitting, training to get faster and taking groundballs any chance, I can.

PBR: GPA/ACT?
Holt: 3.52 overall. I’m scheduled to take the ACT in October after my official visits.

PBR: What showcases or events have been most meaningful to your recruitment thus far?
Holt:  To be honest, I was told that the Future Games was the one you wanted to be sure you went to if you got the invite and it definitely lived up to its reputation!  I was overwhelmed by the number of scouts and colleges that were there to watch us play.  It was amazing!  I will tell everyone that if there is just one event you want to make; the Future Games is the one!  I got the most exposure from the Future Games.
