Trey Sofio
Louisiana Scouting Director

The Pitcher Showcase took place on Saturday, January 4th at The Kastle in Mandeville. The open event saw 20+ pitching prospects from across the state of Louisiana.

We begin our instant analysis from Saturday’s event with a look at some of the day’s top performers.

The event saw 7 players reaching a top velocity of  85 or better including Zeph Arnold (Bunkie HS, LA) who flashed an event best 90 mph fastball. The young right-hander showed feel for a three-pitch arsenal with advanced feel for his changeup.

Right-hander Gavin Guidry (Barbe HS, LA) also had a standout performance showcasing a clean delivery and an easy high-¾ arm action while working up to 88 mph. Canaan Clayton (Jesuit HS, LA) was another young right-hander that showed well sitting 84-87 with feel for 3 pitches.

Ben Tate (Teurlings Catholic HS, LA) flashed the event’s top left-handed velocity. The junior southpaw worked 85-87 with feel for a short, tight slider and a firm changeup.

Keep an eye out for an announcement regarding when videos from the showcase are posted on player profiles, in addition to more coverage and analysis from Sunday’s Senior Games.

For now, here’s a look at the top performances from a statistical standpoint.
