The 2017 high school season is coming down the home stretch, and the playoffs will be here soon. Today, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana has updated its Power 25 team rankings.

The top of the list largely remain unchanged, but there has been plenty of shakeup in the complete list. Let’s look at a few quick hits from up and down the April 4th Update of the Power 25.

+ By no means is this ground-breaking, but district 3-5A is really, really good. Four teams (Barbe, Sam Houston, Acadiana, and Sulphur) from the district land in the top 8. Trying to predict outcomes in this league is a near impossible task, as anyone can beat anyone on any given day. To say the least, really good baseball is being played in the southwest corner of Louisiana.

+ Three teams in Class 3A continue to climb in the rankings. The ED White Cardinals have jumped out to an impressive 21-4 start, with impressive wins against teams, like No. 3 John Curtis. Led by Southeastern Louisiana recruit, 2017 C Connor Manola, Brusly HS has continued its winning ways, jumping out to a 20-5 start. Another rankings climber in 3A is Loyola Prep. Louisiana State recruit, 2019 C Hayden Travinski gives Loyola major firepower in the heart of the order, as he is a threat to leave the yard at any moment.

+ The Baton Rouge area is once again very strong. Seven teams from the surrounding area crack the Power 25 update. Perennial power Catholic(BR) checks in at No. 5, while the aforementioned Brusly checks in at No. 11, followed by Central(BR) at No. 12, St. Michael’s at No. 15, Zachary at No. 18, newcomer Live Oak at No. 20, and Dutchtown at No. 25.

It’s an exciting time of year if you are a Louisiana high school baseball fan, as district rivalry matchups are cranking up around the state. There will surely be upsets, surprises and exciting moments to come, on the way to see who will be crowned district and state champions. To see the complete updated Power 25, click HERE.
